During summer, I have learned not to step out on the Florida sand because I don’t want to feel the sand.

Does the sand get hot in Florida?

Yes, the sand can get hot, especially during the afternoons.

You must have experienced that it is uncomfortable to walk on darker-colored sand on a hot day.

This is why wearing beach shoes is very important.

Normally, Florida breaches are hot during the summer.

Although the early morning will be nice and cool, you still have to come along with your beach shoe.

You will even see where the lifeguards put up the notice   “hot sand”.

Does the sand get hot in Florida?

There are different kinds of sand on different beaches in Florida.

Some are natural and some are trucked in.

After erosion in Palm Beach County, five types of sand were imported to refill the beaches.

According to Jeff Williams, a senior coastal emeritus scientist with the U.S.

Geologic Survey in Woods Hole, Mass, the sand on the natural beaches in the southern part of Florida have a mixture of calcium carbonate, quartz, and feldspar.

He said he was not certain which of them that will hold heat longer, but all he knew was that darker sand gets hotter than light sand.

At 95-degree heat, and you are walking barefoot, it is natural that you will be uncomfortable on your feet, no matter what sand you are walking in on, white or dark.

He said further.

Siesta Beach on Siesta Key is one of the best beaches in  America because its sand is as white as snow.

There are other benefits this powdery sand has besides its beauty.

It is the most preferred by sandcastle builders because it packs well.

It is good for beach volleyball, and jogging games.

The most beautiful thing is, the temperature will never increase to the point of burning the bottom of your feet as you go back to your Siesta Key vacation condo.

Many of us experienced this when we walked on darker-colored sand on a hot afternoon.

You will feel very uncomfortable, and your shoes will become a necessity.

It is not only in Siesta Key you will see this cool beach sand, but the more you go further north of America the rarer it becomes.

All that people do is enjoy it, but they still marveled at how it came to Siesta Key and the secrets behind its cool temperature.

So, why does the sand in the Gulf of Mexico stay cool?

The sand you see on most beaches is a mixture of sand, gravel, pebbles, rock, coral, and seashells.

They continue to change in composition with time.

There is a continuous accumulation and erosion of these materials throughout the beach’s life, and they do not settle for a long time.

This is the source of the colors you see on beach sand.

Different beaches have different shades and colors.

You will see them in white, black, tan, yellow, red, and some other colors.

A lot of beaches have neutral colors like tan and yellow.

This is because they have a wide range of material deposits on them.
