What are three fun things to do in Singapore?

–> Updated:

Singapore is a busy port built on the south coast of the largest island of the sovereign city-state of the same name.

More than 90 percent of the population lives in this crowded city of towering apartment buildings and gleaming high-rise offices.

The people live under very strict laws. Any religion can be practiced, but gambling and even chewing gum are forbidden.

There are also huge fines for dropping litter. Personal freedom is limited, but the crime rate is the lowest in the world.

Best time to visit Singapore ?

As a nation close to the Equator, Singapore is blessed with two seasons, wet and dry. The dry “season” normally occurs from March to August, while the wet “season” lasts from September to February.

Nonetheless, there is no permanent climate in Singapore. Recently certain storms have completely flooded famous vacation destinations like Orchard Road.

So do bring an umbrella on the off chance that you visit during the stormy season. The downpours have a tendency to be in the mid-to-late evening.

But if you plan for the typically sunny mornings to transform into wet evenings, it could suddenly happen the other way around. Be ready and bring along your umbrella at all times, either to secure yourself from the downpour or shade yourself from the heat of the sun.

Best things to do in Singapore

These are my favorite things to do and beautiful places to visit on your next holiday to Singapore .

National Orchid Garden

is located in the Botanical Gardens in Singapore and it is one of the best features of the huge horticultural garden.

The Orchid Garden looks wonderfully exotic and has an incredible array of the most diverse species of orchids, with lovely flowers and bushes of whole orchids everywhere.

National Orchid Garden

The orchids in the garden are so fresh and excellent that it is simply impossible to look away. You can spend half a day in the garden and choose not to leave this small corner of beauty.

If you are a lover of orchids, this place will not leave you indifferent.

And even if you’re not a connoisseur of their custom colors, you will still like it, because it has so many different orchids with the most unimaginable colors that you will never find anywhere else.

As of a recent count, the collection has over 60,000 orchids including over 400 species and more than 2000 hybrids. The presentation is in color zones representing the four seasons.

National Orchid Garden

One can consider this place as an endless miracle created by nature. For souvenirs, you need to buy a beautiful decoration of orchids (pendant orchid jewelry creations) here in the store.

There are lots of benches and gazebos where you can relax and hide from the sun. Along the paths, there are also drinking stations with clean and cold drinking water.

Singapore Botanic Gardens

is easily accessible via the subway station that bears the same name “Botanik Garden.” The garden itself is a huge beautiful park for residents and visitors to the city.

Here, you can see a good mix of a lovely garden alley with trees and corners of the rainforest. The attraction goes all the way to a pond where you can feed the fish and turtles, and still onward to a small lake filled with white and black swans.

It even has a small waterfall where you can take a beautiful photo. The air is filled with the wonderful aroma of flowering trees.

Singapore Botanic Gardens

Throughout your walk in the park, you can see many small sculptures that fit well in these natural surroundings.

It is all so wonderful that you cannot even believe that this is the handiwork of man. It is an awesome huge park in the city with free admission.

The garden also has amazingly clean Eco-toilets. One of the things you can do along with your family or friends is to have a picnic on the grass under the trees, or dine at one of the many cafes.

Don’t forget to try the cafe place called “Food for Thought” which offers very fresh, tasty and relatively inexpensive food.

My favorite stuff to do in Singapore

Singapore Zoo

is unmatched and is definitely one of the best zoos you can find.

It is not designed like the usual zoos you can find in other places where the poor animals sit in cages or in small fenced enclosures.

Singapore Zoo

You will have the impression that you’re watching animals in their natural environment, and that they are at liberty — because they are housed within such a natural habitation where the fencing is so artfully camouflaged that it is almost imperceptible.

You will be particularly impressed with the lemurs that scamper in low trees so directly over your head that you can almost touch a tail hanging from the branches.

You can also witness a small skirmish between white rhinos. When this happens at a distance of only a few feet in front of you, it is a very impressive sight.

Animals and birds are so numerous that there is something to see from every species.

The zoo is very clean, all neat and well maintained and there is not a persistent odor, which is usually inherent in many zoos.

Singapore Zoo

If relaxing in Singapore with children (from 3-4 years), then this place is a must-see attraction to keep the kids delighted and let them learn about animal behavior.

There are a number of educational shows about topics like the rainforest, the orangutans, the aquatic animals and so on.

Keep in mind that the zoo is very large; in order not to get tired visitors often use the various modes of transportation provided for getting around the zoo. The zoo also offers a night safari tour, which is worthy of attention.

Fun things to do in Singapore

Gardens By The Bay

This is one of the best experiences in life! The Gardens by the Bay complex — built entirely on reclaimed land –consists of a variety of themed areas.

There is a Children’s Garden with a tree house and an adventure trail; an area of Supertrees up to 160 feet tall — artificial constructs that mimic the functions of living trees and help to harness solar energy and provide climate control; small thematic gardens that present the relationship of plants and people according to different cultures; and two huge glass pavilions.

Under one of them, you can see something like a botanical garden with flowers, trees, and exotic plants.

And under the second, you can find a real miracle, an artificial mountain that is completely covered with plants where powerful air conditioners make a high-altitude zone with a cloud layer, and other features of a cloud forest.

You can walk on the boardwalk outside or stay inside the mountain area close to the plants. It’s all very reminiscent of the virgin jungle Mount Kinabalu in Borneo, only in miniature.

Gardens by the Bay

Plus, it is stunningly beautiful. You can start your tour inspection in the afternoon and then go back after sunset — hours before the closing pavilions offer their stunningly beautiful lights.

If you are a nature lover, you’ll just be amazed at the wonderful sights that surround Singapore City.

It stands very close to the Marina Bay Sands. Entrance to the park is free and you can simply walk around, but in the greenhouses you have to pay.

Try to climb the giant trees and look at the park and the entire city down below from this height — it’s not expensive, so don’t miss it.

There is a fast elevator installed for easy access through all floors. The park was opened in 2012 and some metal trees are not yet fully entwined with live plants.

Popular Singapore tourist attractions

Cloud Forest Dome

A small tropical paradise designed for nature lovers. It has a huge mountain in a dome with its own waterfalls, where it is both cool and humid at the same time.

In this pavilion they have successfully recreated the whole mountain with its own waterfall, greenery, and different humidity at different heights.

Take the opportunity to visit all 6 floors in this mountain and feel the difference as you ascend higher.

The feeling is simply indescribable (comparable only with the feeling when you swim in the rooftop pool at the Marina Bay Sands!)

Cloud Forest Dome

A great feeling welcomes you upon entrance to the pavilion, where you are immediately confronted by a huge tropical waterfall flying from somewhere under the dome.

It continues as you walk through the tropical haze all around the big mountain covered by this forest with exotic plants. Real rain can be felt at the forest in the city center, but still under a huge glass dome — here it really is something amazing to see.

What else to do in Singapore ?

Marina Bay Sands Skypark

It is a hotel with an observation deck, which offers stunning views. If you can, go up to the observation deck for an hour before sunset to watch the city by day and then by night. On the site you can see a business center with skyscrapers, Ferris wheel and the Formula 1 circuit.

It has unusual and incredibly beautiful trees, as if it’s a scene from the movie Avatar. Every night on the waterfront right outside the hotel, you can see the evening laser show free of charge.

From this location you can admire the bridge of DNA, the Merlion statue, and the downtown waterfront.

You can view these memorable and fantastic places from all angles and have a dizzying view of the evening glow of Singapore from 626 feet up.

The Marina Bay Sands pool is open only to guests, so to see Singapore from this height –and at the same time to visit this famous hotel pool — can only be done if you are a guest there. But the view from the observation deck is available to anyone who buys a ticket.

The top view of the Sky Park playground is open from 9:30 am to 10:00 pm (Friday through Sunday until 11:00); be sure to come early as the ticket booth stops working for an hour before the closing time.

Is Singapore worth visiting?

The answer is Yes. Singapore is worth visiting. This is because it is such a magical place
full of beauty and adventures.
Make sure you visit the following stunning place:

Asian Civilisations Museum and Exposition

ACM is Singapore’s national museum of Asian antiquities and decorative art.

The museum traces its roots to the Raffles Museum, founded in the middle of the 19th century As the only museum in Asia with a pan-Asian scope, ACM is devoted to exploring the rich artistic heritage of Asia through our outstanding collection of masterpieces, and through groundbreaking special exhibitions.

Opened in 1997 and in its present building by the Singapore River since 2003. ACM focuses on the many historical connections between cultures and civilisations in Asia & between Asia and the world.

Designed by GreenHilLi Pte Ltd, headed by architects Nigel Greenhill and Li Sau Kei, they bring light and space to the museum visitor experience, using warm-toned titanium and glass to create a look that contrasts yet complements the original neoclassical façade.

What else to see in Singapore ?

Flight Experience Flight Simulator

will be of interest primarily to fans of flight simulators and aviation in general. In fact, this is a beautiful full simulation of a cabin in the popular airliner Boeing 737NG.

Depending on your preference, you can book your flight time from 30 minutes to 4 hours. In the company of a flight instructor, you begin the simulated journey and time really flies by. Please note that the Flight Experience is a popular place and you should be sure to book in advance.

No matter if you are an experienced virtual pilot or just casually strolled into the Flight Experience — you will be interested.

Despite the fact that this is a stationary set simulator, you will still feel like you’re flying this jetliner: weather phenomena is exhibited and the instructor will educate you about the realistic cubicle that fully corresponds to the real 737NG.

It has all sensors, screens, throttles, a fully functional toggle, and you will perform functions described in pilot-training courses. You can even pre-set the onboard computer and switch to autopilot after takeoff.

Please be advised that the cost of the package includes a video of your flight from the cockpit, photographs, and a photo frame.

Popular places to visit in Singapore

MacRitchie Nature Trail

offers a great course with the longest suspension bridge in the rainforest. It is spectacular for nature lovers and those who want to jog.

You will stay in contact with dozens of monkeys who walk around as if you weren’t even there.

There are two huge parks connected to each other through all the trails and it is almost impossible to do both if you are not trained.

The MacRitchie has 6 trails differentiated by color from 1 to 8.5 miles.

If you get some good instructions, you can walk down the pink trail with yellow line, then continue along the 8.5 miles in the jungle next to the lake, walk on the zip-zap bridge, and finally reach the treetop walk on the magnificent suspension bridge over the jungle with a fabulous view.

That is a great walk without a doubt! Bring supplies and water because there are no eateries around and the amount of time for completing the trail is up to 4.5 hours.

Things to do in Singapore with kids

Changi Chapel and Museum

Changi Chapel and Museum

An exhibition that allows you to better understand the suffering and insecurity of those imprisoned during the last great war.

It is located on the way to the airport and accessible by a taxi ride. It is useful to know a small part of the complex world war as fought in the last century in Asia.

The chapel is a replica of one made by the inmates during the Japanese occupation in World War II, but most touching is to see the museum with photos and personal belongings of those who were incarcerated there.
