In the United States, you cannot miss loving its bridges.

Whether you are coming to Florida or New York, you will fall in love with bridges.

I know that bridges are constructed to improve the beauty of a place, and making movements easier.

However, some bridges may not allow you to conquer them without a steep ride.

What is the steepest bridge in Florida?

I believe Sunshine Skyway Bridge is the steepest bridge in the Sunshine State.

In Florida, we have different designs that make bridges appealing for tourism and selfies.

In this article I will discuss the steep bridges.

What is the steepest bridge in Florida?

Sunshine Skyway Bridge is the steepest bridge in Florida and spreads over the Lower Tampa Bay, linking St.

Petersburg, Florida to Terra Ceia.

The state opened  the Sunshine Skyway in 1954, but the United States Coast Guard Cutter Blackhorn  crashed the bridge in 1980.

In 1987, a new bridge was opened, which is the current bridge.

I will highlight other steep bridges in the United States.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is located in Maryland with a 200 feet high extension.

The bridge is 4.3 miles that runs across the Chesapeake Bay.

It has  a huge stature scaffold above the water.

The bridge has experienced alarming assaults because of its steep nature, including drivers experiencing vision burrowing, which can lead to loss of vehicle control.

As a result, some drivers are scared of using the bridge.

In addition, Chesapeake Bay Bridge is old and does not have crisis pull-off that reduce fear.

I have seen drivers take psychological treatment to overcome this bridge’s scare.

Mackinac Bridge

Mackinac Bridge, the Powerful Mac is located in Michigan, and opened to the public in 1957.

It measures five miles and is among the longest engineered bridges worldwide.

In addition, Mackinac Bridge is the longest engineered overpass in the Western half worldwide.

The bridge is among the steepest bridges in the United States, suspended at least 200 feet above the ground.

Further, it  moves with the breeze because it is engineered overpass.

The bridge’s extension can move side to side in more than 35 feet.

However, you wouldn’t fee the movements when you drive on the bridge.

Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge

Have you driven across the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge?

The bridge is steep and  interfaces the New York City precincts of Staten Island and Brooklyn.

The bridge traverses the Narrows, which is a waterway that links the encased Upper New York Bay with Lower New York Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Verrazzano-Narrows is the major fixed intersection of the Narrows.

Verrazzano-Narrows has twofold deck linking 13 paths of Interstate 278, with seven paths on the upper level and six on the lower level.

You may be surprised to know that Verrazzano-Narrows is named after Giovanni da Verrazzano, who was the European pilgrim to enter New York Harbor and the Hudson River in 1524.

Bronx-Whitestone Bridge

In New York City, you can have Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, which has become one of the steepest bridges in the country.

The bridge conveys six paths of Interstate 678 over the East River, while its extension interfaces Throggs Neck and Ferry Point Park in the Bronx.

In addition,  it  interfaces on the East River’s northern shore, with the Whitestone area of Queens on the southern shore.

Swiss-American draftsman Othmar Ammann planned the construction of the bridge and it was opened with four paths in 1939.

Its extension’s plan was a replica of the 1940 Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Delaware Memorial Bridge

I like the Delaware Memorial Bridge, constructed like a twin engineered overpass that crosses the Delaware River.

The bridge conveys U.S.

Highway 40 among New Jersey and Delaware, and  Interstate 295.

HNTB with the support of engineer Othmar Ammann planned the bridge, and they incorporated the concept of Walt Whitman Bridge and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

If there is a bridge that leaves tourist with a territorial association, it is this bridge.

Richmond–San Rafael Bridge

The Richmond–San Rafael Bridge can be found on the northernmost of the east-west intersections of the San Francisco Bay.

The bridge was named after Senator John F.

McCarthy.

The bridge covers Interstate 580 from Richmond to San Rafael and was opened to the public in 1956.

Today, Richmond–San Rafael Bridge is considered as one of the steepest bridges in America.

San Mateo–Hayward Bridge

I have to add San Mateo-Hayward Bridge as one of the steepest bridges you can find the country.

The bridge crosses the province of California’s San Francisco Bay, and offers you a link the San Francisco Peninsula with the East Bay.

In addition, the bridge’s scaffold’s west end is in Foster City, which is a beautiful suburb on the eastern edge of San Mateo.

Then, the east ends at Hayward and also one of the longest bridges worldwide.

Talmadge Memorial Bridge

The Talmadge Memorial Bridge spreads over the Savannah River between Hutchinson Island  and downtown Savannah, Georgia.

Furthermore, the bridge conveys US 17/SR 404 Spur and its  first extension was added in 1953.

However in 1991, a substitution link was completed and made the bridge more appealing.

San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge

Bay Bridge or the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is a complex of scaffolds that crosses San Francisco Bay.

The bridge is a part of Interstate 80, including the immediate street between San Francisco and Oakland.

San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge can handle at least 250,000 vehicles daily on its two decks.

I cannot mention steep bridges without talking about San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

Also, the Jr.

Extension, interfaces downtown San Francisco to Yerba Buena Island.

I believe if you visit any of these steep bridges, you may feel what many riders experience.

Sometimes, they are scared, while others think it is an addition to their bucket lists.
