Citadel Budva
This is really a very old place that separates the old town with old gates and arches.
Not everyone knows, but it is possible to climb to the walls and at a certain height you will discover a completely different Budva.
Through its embrasures it is interesting to observe life while swirling down, and also looking at yachts that are moored nearby.

The Budva Citadel is certainly one of the highlights in any tour around the old towns of Montenegro.
The evidence of past centuries and the narrow streets invite you to look around and take pictures.
To visit the citadel and see all of the remarkable parts, you must pay an entrance fee, which is very limited.
The museum is small but nice.
Unfortunately, in all the churches and other religious structures found inside, photography is prohibited and the postcards of them are very rare to get.
Stamps can be bought only at the post office, and that is far outside in the city center.
During the off-peak season, the crowd is not so bad, so that one is not restricted in his freedom of movement.

Altstadt (Old Town) Budva
According to legend, Budva was founded in ancient times when ordinary mortals married daughters of the gods to become the ancestors of the great nations.

The Kadmo village can be found on a stoney landscape.
Budva Altstadt is surrounded by walls and four city gates that keep watch at the four corners of the earth.
Inside the city, there are many narrow intersecting streets that all find out its way to the squares.
This charming ancient town itself is quite small and the Old Town is even smaller.
When you find yourself there, you feel as if you are being transported back to several centuries ago.
Cobbled narrow streets, city wall, medieval house, and antique shops abound on this part of the city.
Unfortunately, many of them now are only there for the tourist trade and it certainly spoils the authenticity and originality of this old town.
The shops sell sarongs, hats, and sunglasses along the background of the ancient walls.
On the square, there are many small restaurants which flow smoothly into one another and not immediately clear where one ends and the next begins.
This part has the most interesting thing and it is best to come there in the evening to see the whole place, make good photos, and see the old town well illuminated.

Tara River Canyon

Tara Bridge
You can find the Tara Bridge which was built in 1941 at the intersection of Zabljak, Pljeva, and Mojkovac.
It is one of the few ways to view the flowing waters of the River Tara and where people can gather to watch through the gorge.
Otherwise, the bank slopes are very inadequate and therefore no other roads along the Tara Canyon is possible.
Rafting on the Tara or experiencing the rapid waters of the Tara Canyon is probably one of the most exciting trips that are possible in Montenegro.
The rafting is offered both on inflatable boats, such as on a raft with trained guides or on a kayak.
However, Tara is not entirely free to drive for it is too dangerous and challenging in some sections.
Also, not all seasons a rafting trip is doable.
But, especially in the summer when most of the tourists stay in Montenegro, the water level is low and the moving speed of the Tara is quiet enough to offer rafting trips on specific routes of the river.
The rafting on the Tara are all proven safe, as well as the boats and rafts used for it.
The owner and provider of the rafting tours are all certified divers and swimmers.
The tours can take on the riverbank in a period of two hours to multi-day trips with camping.

The stairway steps need to be overcome in 1400, but the reward will be a fantastic view of the city and the bay.
If you come from the bay or one of the cruise ships that dock its harbor, be delighted by the magnificent fjord that is unique in the Adriatic and enjoy a natural show like no other.
The mountains honed for centuries by glaciers leave the tourist a sense of an almost “lunar landscape”.
The sea of glass which reflects the edges, the sound of the waves, and the caress on the face of the beach that often blows in this area will leave you speechless.
Once you reach the actual Kotor town, discover a medieval community that shows the ancient times in all respect.

An amazing town that is built entirely of stone.
Kotor also carries the nickname of the city of cats because of the large number of stray cats that roam the area.
There are a lot of shops, restaurants, bars, and even a few of the bigger clubs in Montenegro.
It is nice to get lost in its narrow streets and be a typical tourist who discovers lots of pleasant surprises along the way.
Kotor is located in the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro.
All of its historic center is enclosed by a boundary wall and is part of the Heritage of ‘humanity that is served and protected by’ UNESCO.
It has been under the rule of the Venetian Republic in fact its influence is all visible in the streets and buildings that can be found in the downtown area.
There are many old Churches here that are all of medieval origin, including: St.
Paul, St.
Mary, St.
Luke, Saint Anna and the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon.

The Nonostante is directly on the beach behind Kotor and it is surrounded by mountains where there is a small village with a unique charm like the rest of the fjord.

The entire old town of Kotor is quite large for the era in which it was incurred.
It is surrounded by powerful and beautiful walls that cover the whole stretch towards the sea which are really powerful to defend the city from attacks by enemies.
It then climbs up to the middle coast and then down the other side.
Despite many years of existence, the Kotor City Walls is a colossal work that is still well preserved.
There are a thousand steps to climb along the walls but you can rest quietly by looking at the view because at that height, the natural scene becomes increasingly more beautiful.
When you arrive at the top, give yourself a look around.
Take the road to get to the church on the back of what remains of the fortress and go down a long road that slopes gently downward between the pomegranates and the views of the goats that graze in the distance.
Safety is always an option and it is best to keep an eye on the kids if you bring them with you.
In any case, especially if it’s a nice day is a walk not to be missed.
Popular places to visit in Montenegro
The Church of Our Lady of the Rock
To visit this beautiful church you must go to Perast (frequent bus from Kotor to 70 euro cents).
From there, a boat takes you to this small island created by man out of a single rock that is protruding from the water.
The boat ride costs 5 Euros whatever the number of persons it carries on board.
Visit this small Orthodox Church which houses a sacred icon and a very nice little museum.
It is a small chapel that stands in the middle of the bay and by stands truly enchanting.
Be charmed by the interior of the premises inside the Church of our Lady of the Rock .
A visit is more advisable in the morning because there is not a bit of shade.
The entrance to the church is free while a visit to the museum costs 1 euro.
Things to do in Montenegro with kids
Long Beach
The Long Beach is relatively easy by the standards of the beaches you can find in Montenegro.
There are a lot of tourists but the dimensions are large.
The small black volcanic sand entrance to the sea is sandy and gently sloping.
The water is also pleasant, warm and the wave is optimal.
This beach is an excellent choice for families with children.
Along the road in Ulcinj before reaching this beach, be delighted at the sight of shops that sell fresh watermelons that are locally grown here.
Things to do around Montenegro
Blue Grotto
The Herceg Novi offers many different options to get to the cave of the Blue Grotto and the cost is also different.
If the weather will be bad (strong winds and waves are usually strong) getting into the cave by boat may not work.
But even if the ship does not go in the cave itself, It makes a near stop so everyone to so can swim.
The water is really very blue and the cave is astoundingly beautiful and impressive.
Some boats stop on the nearby island of Mamula to admire the view from an abandoned fortress.
It is a nice panorama and truly worth looking for when in Montenegro.
