Can You Really Reach Florida by Taking I-95?

It’s no secret that many come to the US just to drive the famous roads.

This is not surprising;

a lot of books and films are devoted to American highways.

In addition, technically, the road system in the United States is one of the most convenient in the world.

Today I decided: why not tell my readers about the favorite road of Floridians (as well as residents of another 15 eastern states and the District of Columbia), road number I95?

The road, which for 20 years of my life in America has become quite mastered for me and almost native,

So many times I had to drive along it either north or south.

And although Route I-95 is not the longest route in the USA (1,919 miles), it is the most important for everyone who travels from Miami to Boston, New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Richmond, Savannah, Jacksonville

Before I start telling you about I-95, let me tell you this:

How Did the Roads Get Their Numbers?

At first glance, the road map of the United States looks like a mess.

Nevertheless, the system has its own strict logic: roads from north to south receive even numbers, and those from east to west receive odd numbers.

Route numbers increase from west to east and from south to north.

For example, Interstate 5 is on the East Coast, and Interstate 95 is on the West Coast.

I-10 goes through Texas, and I-90 goes through Massachusetts.

When the alignment reaches an urban area, the ring roads that bypass the cities receive their own numbers.

They consist of a route number and an even prefix: I-290 is the roundabout on I-90, I-495 is on I-95, and so on.

If, for example, I-80 passes through three cities in the state, the detours will be numbered I-280, I-480, and I-680.

In the next state, the numbering starts again, so there may be several roads with the number I-280 throughout the country.

When Interstate 95 reaches Washington from the south, it enters the famous Ring at the number I-495.

At the northbound exit, it is back-numbered I95.

If the first digit is odd, it means that the road is an exit to the city.

There are some exceptions to this rule.

There is a numbering system for roads connecting major highways.

The number is chosen by the state authorities.

There are two methods for this.

Connecting roads are either numbered sequentially from the state’s southern or eastern border (so the first road would be number 1) or by distance from the state’s westernmost or southernmost point: an exit between the four and five mile markers from the state line would be number 4.

And now, we are back on our I-95 road:

Can You really Reach Florida by Taking I-95?

Yes.

The longest north-south route is I-95 from Miami, Florida, to Houlton, Maine.

Its length is 1,919 miles.

Interstate 95 ends and starts in downtown Miami, Florida.

It goes to the north and passes through the city of Jacksonville.

In Georgia, I-95 runs through the eastern part of the state, and in the city of Savannah, there is an interchange between I-95 and I-16.

In South Carolina, I-95 intersects I-20.

What Cities Does I-95 Go Through in Florida?

It begins in the south of downtown Miami, then passes through Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Port St.

 Lucie, Titusville, and Daytona Beach.

The route also passes through the cities of Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Titusville.

The road passes through the territory of fifteen states.

It is the longest interstate highway, running from north to south.

How Long Does It Take to Drive Through Florida on I-95?

It is around 435 miles, so it will take around 7 hours.

Does I-95 connect to the Florida Turnpike?

Yes.

The turnpike crosses I-95 just south of SR 70 (exit 152) in Fort Pierce after I-95 continues to head up the east coast of Florida and the turnpike curves inland towards Orlando.

The complex interchange Golden Glades provides access between I-95 and two other freeways—the original section of the Florida Turnpike (SR 91), since bypassed by the Homestead Extension (SR 821), and the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826).

Is it Better to Take the Florida Turnpike or I-95?

No, I-95 is better for me.

What is good about the 95th Road is that it is impossible to get lost on it.

And wherever you come, to Houston in the north or Miami in the south, you will be lucky.

Believe me, the old road man who spent thousands of miles on 95

Some people prefer the Turnpike because there is no traffic on the road.

Do You Have to Pay a Toll on I-95 in Florida?

Yes.

I-95 tolls in Florida usually cost between $10.

50 and $0.

50.

If you live in the same state or close ones, connected by a single payment system, it makes sense to purchase an electronic device for a car.

Each state has its own characteristics.

In Florida, in the Miami area, you have a choice—to go on a toll road or not.

For example, on the famous Interstate 95 (I-95), moving in the same direction, a couple of lanes are disconnected into high-speed (toll) lanes where everyone flies by while the freebies are stuck in traffic.

In other states, most often there is no alternative to driving through some parts of Illinois;

like it or not, you pay when you drive up to Chicago.

Sometimes you can choose a route using navigator-free roads, but it can be a boring track, and a couple of bucks saved is not worth such a bore when you drive through beautiful cities and bridges for money.

How Do I Pay the I-95 Toll in Florida?

You can pay with cash or by installing an electronic transporter.

If you pay in cash, you must have the exact amount, and in coins, bills are rarely accepted and change is not always given.

Most Florida residents use Sun Pass as an electronic transponder to pay the toll in Florida.

Drivers who use electronic transportation payments can use the SunPass Only, E-Pass Only, or LeeWay Only lanes, and they do not have to queue to pay at the station.

I-95 Driving Rules

Interstates are freeways, and therefore no slow-moving or oversized vehicles are allowed on I-95.

The highest speed limit is determined by state authorities.

You can drive at speeds no greater than 70 mph.

Stopping on the interstate part of the road is prohibited, except for viewing platforms specially built for this purpose in especially picturesque places.

The left lane is considered the fastest, so you can’t stop on its side even if it breaks down (if possible). So that they don’t stop on the left side of the road.

If there is a broken car on the right side of the road, other drivers should go one lane to the left if possible.

The road is equipped with cameras and control rooms.

So road services, police, and ambulances can quickly respond to any incidents and send help.

Video from I-95 surveillance cameras can be viewed onthe Houston Transtar website.
