Hubei Provincial Museum

The Hubei Provincial Museum is one of the most spectacular buildings in the city.

Located next to the East Lake, this museum was opened in 1956 and was later moved in 1960 with many smaller buildings added to the main building.

It exhibits some of the most amazing archaeological finds of the province.

The Hubei Provincial Museum is the only provincial comprehensive museum in the province.

Since the year 1953 the museum has been collecting over 200,000 cultural relics which include pottery items, jade items, porcelains, bronze vessels, ancient musical instruments and even ancient weapons.

812 of these cultural relics are considered to be first class relics of China while 16 of them are known to be national treasures.

Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge

The first steel bridge of China, the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge , was completed in the year of 1957 to link Wuchang and Hanyang with each other from across the river.

It is 1670 meters long and 260 feet high.

The road traffic operates on the upper deck of the bridge while the railway line runs on the lower deck.

At the end of each side there is a tower which is 35 meters in height and is installed with a lift.

The structure of the bridge is so strong that it hasn’t been affected by any catastrophe like the earthquakes in the country.

This bridge was the first bridge ever built to connect south and north China with each other.

For thousands of years the wide river in between seemed like a huge obstacle until the construction of this bridge began in 1955.

Wuhan Botanical Garden

If you are looking for some nature around the city then head out to the Wuhan Botanical Garden which will not only mesmerize you, but will compel you to go through all of the garden.

The botanical garden was setup in 1956 on the bank of the East Lake right under the Moshan Hill.

Going through the Wuhan Botanical Garden you will find rare and somewhat large flowers growing in the greenhouse.

It can be hard to walk along the entire park and look at all the plantations, but if you start an early day you can succeed.

The main gardens of this botanical garden are the Kiwifruit Garden, which holds the largest number of species in the world, Aquatic Plant Garden which is the largest in East Asia, Garden of Genetic Resources of Special Wild Fruit Trees which is the biggest one in Central China and some other theme gardens which exhibit the rare fruits and plants.

Guiyuan Temple

This is one of the most beautiful places to see in all of Wuhan.

This Buddhist temple is located on the west side of Wuhan and covers a large area.

It was originally established in 1658 during the Qing Dynasty’s rule and is one of the four best temples.

The word Guiyuan generates from a sutra which means that one returns to purity.

The temple has a garden too, and is built very delicately.

The temple is interspersed by kiosks and parterres.

There are 5 courtyards in the temple and the distribution is in the shape of a cassock.

The temple had not completed originally but in later years was extended to reach the huge size that it now has.

The eastern, northern, southern, western and middle courtyards all hold some important relics which the visitors admire.

These relics are historically significant and valuable for the temple.

There are more than 500 statues within this temple, the largest one standing in the middle courtyard with a lion standing opposite to it making it a reflection.

There are other figures behind this statue to be worshipped by people from home and from abroad.

The most famous items from these snacks are the hot and dry noodles, fried tofu skin, braised pork, steamed pork dumplings, Hunan preserved fish and a Wuhan Doupi which is a very interesting regional dish.

To make the alley more authentic and bringing it back to its original state the government ordered reconstruction after which this place became a major tourist attraction for people all across the world.

At the entrance on each side of the alley there are two stone lions on which is carved ‘number one alley for Han style breakfast.

The ancient alley is a very distinct yet hidden place in the city of Wuhan which adds to the musical notes and hubbub of the city.

Yellow Crane Tower

The Yellow Crane Tower is located on Snake Hill in Wuhan and is one of the most renowned towers on the Yangtze River.

It has cultural significance and has become one of the most symbolic buildings in Wuhan.

According to what the legend says the tower was made by an old pothouse owner living in the city of Wuhan.

A Taoist priest came to his house one day asking for some wine but the man ignored him, but his son without telling his own father gave the man some wine and didn’t ask for any money.

The Taoist priest continuously came to the pothouse owner’s for almost half a year after which one day he went to the son and said that in order to repay for his kindness he would like to make a crane on the wall of the pothouse which would dance on his request.

When got to hear about the crane they flocked to the pothouse to see the dancing crane and soon the Xin family, the pothouse owners became rich and famous within the city of Wuhan.

The Yellow Crane Tower has a very long and complicated history because it was built many times during different periods of different rulers.

Luojia Mountain

Also called the Jialuo Mountain, the Luojia Mountain is located on the eastern suburb of the Wuchang district in Wuhan.

The mountain stretches for a thousand of miles and is flourished with green plantation and flowers which are soothing to one’s eyes and is right next to the East Lake.

The lake and the mountain together become a great combo of scenery and add to the radiance of the surroundings.

Gude Temple of Hankou

The Main Hall of this temple was built first, after which it was extended with other parts of the temple being built, making the temple one of the most classic architectural buildings in Wuhan.

The artistic style used in making the Gude Temple of Hankou is very unique in the Mainland of China where the Buddhist style temples are more in impact and are common to find.

Wuhan is known to be the jungle of four temples with Gude Temple being one of them and its history is quite short compared to the rest of the three temples.

The temple was heavily destructed during the ‘Cultural Revolution’ with many of the Buddhist relics and artifacts destroyed during the cause.
