The critical location of the Villa General Belgrano is one of the reasons why travelers spend their holiday in this small but progressive city in Argentina.

The almost fairy tale like ambience and its dramatic sunset entices tourists to embark on a tour of all the attractions located along its majestic Calamuchita Valley and row of small villages.

Villa General Belgrano

Locally known as ‘the city of beers’, Villa General Belgrano stands 750 meters above the ocean level, it is also encompassed by the two great mountain ranges of Cordoba; Sierras Chicas and Sierra Grande.

This city is widely influenced by German culture and

recognized as a major tourist spot in the province of Cordoba

.

Thousands of visitors from all over the world flock to this city every October to participate in the celebration of their own Oktoberfest Argentina National Beer Festival.

Best things to do in Villa General Belgrano

These are my favorite things to do and beautiful places to visit on your next holiday to Villa General Belgrano .

Calamuchita Valley

The Calamuchita Valley is considered as a tourist place par excellence in Argentina.

Although there are some discrepancies regarding the precise limits of the Valley, at the Center for Information de Turismo of Santa Rosa de Calamuchita you can find the details and exact location of the attractions you want to see like; the northern border at the Embalse Los Molinos and Rio Reservoir III south, the Sierras Comechingones of east and west.

From Route 5, you can explore this valley in its entire splendor and admire the magnificent mountain views.

This valley is surrounded by towns in Cordoba province.

At the southern end of the valley you can see six lakes, the largest of which is Embalse which is the most extensive part of the province.

The others are Cerro Pelado, short-Arroyo, 2nd plant, 3a plant and Piedras Moras which serve as both energy generators and irrigation area.

Calamuchita Valley

Calamuchita Valley is highly recommended for nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts.

Mountain hikers are allowed to go up to the Cerro Champaqui (about 3000m in altitude).

The whole mountain region of Cordoba has amazing landscapes and sensational views of the city.

It is a beautiful area in the region of Cordoba that is lined with great restaurants, lots of nature and waterfalls.

The place is extremely friendly and possesses shops along the main street with many typical items such as craft beers, chocolates and souvenirs of all kinds.

It is a good place for a quiet weekend away from noise, ideal for rest, good quality food, and an ideal place to visit any time of the year.

My favorite stuff to do in Villa General Belgrano

Cerro de la Virgen

Like many hills in the province of Cordoba, The one thing that sets the Cerro de la Virgen apart is the statue of the virgin.

The challenging trail and the nature walk make the rise to this attraction really interesting.

Do not forget to bring drinking water and try not to do it when the weather is too hot.

While it has its difficult sections on the rise, if you’re patient to arrive, there should not be any problem.

Do not go if you are in bad physical condition.

The view at the top has impressive vistas of the entire city.

It can be somewhat difficult if you are not used to extreme physical activity.

Yet the road is beautiful, full of greenery.

After a visit to the Virgin, you can make a tour of the nearby German Pico.

When you go back, the descent is very fast and it is very important to pay attention to the road.

If you

come on a cloudy day

, you may not appreciate the view from the top, but you can still enjoy the whole trip.

Cerro de la Virgen

The start of the walk is very close to the city and the climb can be done in about an hour, however, there are some sections that are more physically demanding than others.

It has almost no shade so you have to wear a wide hat, sunscreen, and water.

At the top, there is a shady place to rest before starting the descent, which is done much faster.

The view from the Cerro de la Virgen is beautiful and admission is free of charge.

For those who like to climb mountains or hills, Cerro de la Virgen is an interesting proposal not only by the view from the top, but the journey that presents a great challenge for the seasoned hiker and traveler.

The difficulty is average and the first part of the climb you have an inclination of 45°.

Once you get past this part, the climb is easier.

Anyway, you have some easier inclinations and rise to overcome.

The place is signposted from the start and the height measures a total of 1300 meters high.

Fun things to do in Villa General Belgrano

Museo Histórico y Centro Cultural Villa General Belgrano

You cannot go to the area of Calamuchita and bypass this museum.

It is easily accessible and centrally located and blessed with excellent atmosphere.

There are lots of things to see and taste.

You must try the gelato and chocolate cakes.

The museum also accompanies the history of the place.

This private museum belongs to the foundation named “The Capillita”.

It used to be the old chapel of the village between 1949 and 1969.

It was built by a group of neighbors without distinction of religion or race.

Museo Historico y Centro Cultural Villa General Belgrano

This place is included in the history book of this village and also the story of the early settlers who collaborated with objects that belonged to the first inhabitants of Villa General Belgrano.

That is why it is common to see inside the museum everyday objects that were used in the early times.

You can see the first telephone exchange village that still works,a preserved film projector, photo cameras, and numerous objects belonging to the 120 sailors’ German battleship Graf

Spee which was sunk in 1939 off the coast of Montevideo

and brought to this place.

The aim of the Museum is to know, preserve and transmit the identity of the Villa General Belgrano.

Take time to spend at least half a day to understand its history.

Please avoid taking pictures while inside the museum, it is one of the restrictions imposed by the municipality.

Popular Villa General Belgrano tourist attractions

Capilla Vieja

The Capilla Vieja is located at 176 Julio A.

Roca Street and it originally started as a factory of alfajores that began over 30 years ago and today has become a major company that has added other

products as well using the best raw materials from Argentina

and perfecting the techniques of preparation of the same treats identified with their company.

They have a line of chocolates, chocolate drinks, snacks, etc.

, a line of sweet natural fruit without preservatives and a gourmet line of preserves mixed with traditional flavors.

Enter the premises and you will be amazed at the variety of food products that they offer.

Capilla Vieja

This place is also rich with history.

The chapel keeps photos, memories, comments and stories that teach you about the process and the changes it has undergone through the years.

It is totally impossible to visit the villa without shopping or going around the Old Chapel.

Founded in the 80s, this chocolate factory is one of the most famous and preserved landmarks of Villa General Belgrano.

The chocolates are not cheap, but it is worth every penny.

There is no denying they are a little expensive, but they are of very good quality and really worthwhile.

If you want to bring home a sample of their product, a kilo of chocolates can be purchased at £ 384.

What else to do in Villa General Belgrano ?

Bosque Encantado de Don Otto

The Bosque Encantado de Don Otto is a very private home showing the lifestyle of Mr.

Don Otto, a unique and interesting man from Villa General Belgrano.

It is good to go with kids too, because it is informative, educational, and full of curiosities.

It is situated near the near the city center, and offer lots of option to do it with children.

The idea is good, but not well resolved: after a series of optical illusions and pretty ruins, it goes to a garden where you can play with your kids and have a free use of the playground equipment or spend a couple of hours to watch a cultural entertainment and explore most things that can be seen and enjoyed there.

After a tour of the garden, a visit inside the house of Don Otto is done and you can see a version of the familiar houses where the inclination of floors and walls produce amazing effects (if one was never in a place like that).

After a series of slips and failed attempts, you will be assisted by a friendly guide.

It is indeed a great place to hang out and do something else, as long as you have children, otherwise a visit is not worth it.

As of February 2015, the entrance fee is 70 pesos per head and the staff does not give a ticket or receipt; just a number.

It has an area of boxes with impressive optical illusion, then a sector outdoors with gambling, and a space for lovers of archery.

Is Villa General Belgrano worth visiting?

The answer is Yes.

Villa General Belgrano is worth visiting.

This is because it is such a magical place

full of beauty and adventours.

Make sure you visit the following stunning place:

Arca de Noe

The Arca de Noe is located at Ruta 5 Km 84 of Villa General Belgrano.

It is a natural reserve where you can see common animals that exist in Argentina like; deer, otters, colorful pheasants, goats, pigeons and peacocks.

You can also purchase on-site regional products such as chocolates, wines, alfajores and olive oil.

Admission fee cost$ 60 (as of April 2015) which seems a bit high in relation to what is actually displayed, but it is a great option to visit with family.

The animals are very docile and walk freely (some) and others are in the pen, waiting to be stroked.

There are 400 animals, but not 400 different species.

They are basically farm animals: chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, horses, etc.

The kids enjoy it because they can walk through all the animals where most of the household pets are loose and scampers around and waiting for some fruits orcorn.

If you like to feed the animals , you can buy 2 bags of corn, which is sold for $ 30 at the entrance gate.

It also has a bouncy castle that the kids take advantage a lot.

The place looks more like a cute and well maintained farm and you can see and do everything within one hour.

A portion of the entrance fee is allocated to the upkeep of the farm and animal feeds.

The only downside is it lacks factual information on the animals, so kids can learn like; physical features, food, habitat, and etc.

, but It is still a great place to spend a nice time while in Villa General Belgrano.

What else to see in Villa General Belgrano ?

Castillo Romano

The Castillo Romano is located at Selva Negra which is just 61 meters from Plaza Jose Hernandez.

This castle is a private museum where the owner Francisco (Tito) Romano shows his collection, his story, and all the enthusiasm of someone who has worked with hand crafted wood all his life and continues to do so until today.

There are action figures, a giant Pinocchio and one with proper motions.

He also made Tony, the doll that works with a ventriloquist to speak, a French musical box from 1805 and collections of different epochs which are perhaps the most representative and viewed exhibits of this place.

It is worth knowing the Museum and you can spend hours talking to its pleasant founder.

The Craftsman Workshop staff named Romano, also creates a carteleria that is carved in relief and color which is characteristic of the signage used on site.

Today, they also manufacture all kinds of decorative articles and as its owner (son of Tito) says they have become “mandatory artisans”.

They also help create the best sculptures that you can see all around the city of Villa General Belgrano.

The admission fee here is US$ 40 (as of March 2015).

Popular places to visit in Villa General Belgrano

Museo del Ovni

The Museo del Ovni is a museum with detailed documentation and assembled by a brilliant couple who has devoted their lives to research and gathering some evidence of what they intend to present as extra terrestrial elements.

If you like this kind of theme you can get close and once inside you can see exhibits that showcase each item with its respective history.

Objectively, the specialty museum does not say much and there are several archaeological exhibits without much apparent relationship, but there are handmade signs related to aliens, galaxy, lost generations, etc.

However, what is worth going here is having a chat with one of the owners who is named Susi.

You will be surprised to hear stories about aliens and find a good conversation with someone who can be your old friend or grandmother who is giving sincere advice on spirituality, advising about being better people while adding information about extraterrestrials.

Despite the opinions and peculiar things shared in this place, you will enjoy the tour and learn to understand that appreciating what this unique place has depended largely on the expectations of each visitor.

The cost of entry, (as of April 2015) is $ 40 and $ 20 for children under 10 years of age.

Finca Atos

The Finca Atos is a beautiful small winery that has guided visits at fixed hours.

It is a wonderful winery that is run systematically by its owners and where the wines are rich and smooth.

If you go to La Cumbrecita, do not forget to stop by the farm for some wine tasting.

Don’t miss the tour of the vineyards, tour of the manufacturing plant where the wines are decanted, fermented and stored to mature.

The tour is very useful and educational and you have the chance to taste two different types of wines while going around the winery of Finca Atos.

Shauer Paseos Nauticos

The Shauer Paseos Nauticos is an outdoor activity where the guides can give you a great ride and the opportunity to swim in the reservoir mills as they explain the whole story and the importance of this well preserved lake and marina.

The view of the city from this boat ride is very nice and the package tour, plus the accommodating guides are highly recommended.

Shauer Paseos Nauticos

The Villa General Belgrano is a beautiful town built and developed by early German immigrants.

A tour of the

town will make you realize how Germany

is deeply rooted in their culture, customs, and traditions.

You can have a visual and gastronomic trip to the German villages.

Geographically, there are scenic waterfalls, picturesque streams and small lakes, but there are plenty of restaurants that serve German cuisine and traditional Argentine dishes as well.

The history of the town is quite interesting and has countless wood sculptures done by professional wood craftsmen.
