As for me,
Biscayne Bay
is connected to warm memories
So many years passed since I was in Florida, at Biscayne Bay, but I still remember a wonderful hotel in which I lived during my vacation in
Miami.
I stayed at the downtown Marriott hotel.
From the balcony of my room, a breathtaking panorama opened up of Biscayne Bay. . .
Even nowadays, I remember this view so clearly- several small green islands right in the middle of the Bay and the shore of one very large island – Miami Beach with d ozens of bridges between the mainland and the islands.
For me, Biscayne Bay is associated only with calm and let’s say “comfort” feelings.
Majestic sailing yachts slowly strolled along the shore. Nimble motor boats, as if competing with each other, “rushed” around the Bay like racing cars, leaving behind splashes and light waves…
And one day, during the morning balcony tea drinking, I even saw three huge rainbows! ! !
In the late evenings, or rather nights, I did not deny myself to get the pleasure of admiring the lights of Biscayne Bay when sitting on the balcony.
Here are some questions many people are asking me all the time about Biscayne and I decided that I know Biscayne Bay pretty well, so I will answer your questions:
Can You Swim at Biscayne?
Yes!
If you are even feeling adventurous you can even
kayak from offshore through the mangrove forest from
Biscayne Bay.
Biscayne Bay is a perfect destination for all kinds of water sports, including canoeing and kayaking in the clearest waters you could ever see.
Biscayne Bay is a paradise for swimming and watersports with two miles of beach. It is a great place to start. .
Biscayne Bay boasts many different ecosystems, including dunes, mangroves , coastal hardwood hammocks, and seagrass beds.
There are always guided kayak tours of Biscayne Bay or guided canoe hikes through the mangroves with wading birds and other native animals and marine life.
I recommend you to start your journey also from Matheson Hammock Park in
Coral Gables Waterway
which is located on Biscayne Bay.
The Coral Gables Waterway is an engineered canal system that added 40 miles from the waterfront to Coral Gables from Biscayne Bay. You can take a 3. 5 mile guided tour of the waterway to explore and understand the local nature better.

Is Biscayne Bay Salt Water?
Yes.
The first version why Biscayne Bay is salty is:
The bulk of Bay salt comes from crumbling rocks on land.
Rain water, having a certain acidity, washes the mineral cocktail into the sea, where chemical reactions take place. As a result of these processes, salts appear.
So the reason for the salinity of Biscayne Bay is the water cycle.
Here is another version why water in Biscayne Bay is salty:
The water in the Bay became salty due to volcanoes – during their high activity, the process of formation of the earth’s crust was going on.
Compounds of bromine, fluorine and chlorine got into the air.
Then these chemical elements fell out as part of acid rain.
That is, initially the earth’s seas were acidic. Interacting with rocks, sea water gradually washed away alkaline elements from them – potassium, sodium, magnesium.
They formed salts that provide a neutralizing effect. Ultimately, the acidity of Bay water decreased.
You can choose any version you like the most =)
Life in Biscayne Bay is rich and varied. All types of the animal world are represented here.
How Deep is the Water in Biscayne?
Not Deep, the maximum depth of Biscayne Bay is 12 feet.
Biscayne Bay is called that part of the water mass, which has a deepened shape, protruding into the land, and the ocean can have only one common coast with land or can be surrounded by land on all sides.
The main feature of the Ocean and Sea is a more elevated bottom compared to the ocean floor, with special climatic conditions.
And Biscayne Bay is not different in their characteristics from the main basin.

Be Close to Biscayne Bay’s Nature
If you are a nature lover then you can pitch your tent and soak in the warm sea breezes at Boca Chita Key or Elliott Key island at Biscayne Bay.
There are campsites on both islands that are available for reasonable money and there is always a tent space.
But, keep in mind that campsites are really primitive.
In addition to toilets, you will not find any amenities on both islands.
There are no shops or stalls here, so be sure to bring water, food, and supplies with you.
Water and showers are only available at Elliott Key Campground.
But here you can connect to Nature truly.
