Often, tourists traveling around the United States choose cities and interesting places along the coast of the country – East or West – as their route.

Today I want to tell you about an interesting place that is definitely worth your visit on the East Coast of the United States: Biscayne Bay.

One of Miami’s and Miami Beach’s greatest treasures is Biscayne Bay.

This Bay has calm, clear water which is teeming with rich and varied marine life and is loved by locals and visitors.

Biscayne Bay is a protected area, one of the most popular diving areas in the United States.

The coast of the Bay is covered with a beautiful mangrove forest.

Biscayne Bay is the result of changing ocean levels, hurricanes, and rain.

The local forests were formed due to the subtropical climate and are more typical for the Caribbean, and not for the north of America.

In summer it is warm here, but not without thunderstorms and showers.

In the park, which is laid out on the shore of the Bay, festivals, show programs, and various tours (canoeing, for example) are held from December to May.

Biscayne Bay is full of restaurants serving local and international dishes.

Most of them do not have a dress code, so you can be free to choose your outfits =)

The choice of places for dinner is too big.

What’s Unique about Biscayne Bay?

Form of life that is concentrated on theCoral Reef is unique.

The most extensive form of life is concentrated on the coral reef – the so-called colony of tiny polyps that secrete limestone and live in ever-growing rocky ravines.

Coral reefs in Biscayne Bay are strictly protected by the state and are an integral part of the continental United States.

The threat to the living system of the protected area came in the 1960s, under the pressure of progress, when developers introduced plans to build resorts in the northern stretches of Florida, from Key Biscayne to Key Largo.

To save Biscayne Bay, environmentalists created a campaign that in 1968, the natural park received the designation of a national monument in 1968.

Biscayne Bay is rich in underwater life that will impress you.

Here we are talking about 600 species of native fish and marine life.

Are There Dolphins in Biscayne Bay?

Atlantic bottlenose dolphins are regularly seen in Biscayne Bay water.

Dolphins usually travel in pairs and can often be seen jumping out of Biscayne Bay or around.

Does Biscayne Bay Have Sharks?

Yes.

It is well known that sharks willingly settle off the coast of Miami.

Scientists have recently determined that south Florida(especially Biscayne Bay) is particularly fond ofhammerhead sharks.

Recent studies show that Biscayne Bay is a kind of safe place for the youngest individuals of this endangered species.

Marine biologists have observed hammerhead sharks off the coast of Biscayne Bay before, but this is the first time they have encountered so many babies.

It is one, the first and safest place for baby sharks in Atlantic water.

The babies grow up in a safe environment where they have no shortage of food.

Growing up, they leave the safest area and begin to hunt on their own in the open waters of the ocean.

The hammerhead sharks that inhabit the coast of Biscayne Bay are apex predators.

This means that they are at the beginning of the food chain and should not be afraid of other animals.

They themselves eat stingrays most willingly.

These types of sharks are always scouring kelp meadows for their favorite delicacies.

They look like automatic metal detectors.

Hammerhead sharks are not picky, they also often eat their fellows: blacktip sharks.

Biscayne National Park

You can get acquainted with the full diversity of the marine world of Biscayne Bay and its incredible beauty easily by visiting Biscayne National Park.

The park is located in southern Florida, east of the city of Homestead in a protected area of the incredible beauty of Biscayne Bay.

Over the years of its existence, the park has gained popularity not only due to the uniqueness of the natural landscape, but has also become one of the most popular diving sites in the United States, since 95% of its total park area is covered with water.

The coast of the bay is covered with vast thickets of mangroves.

Is Miami Located on the Biscayne Bay?

Miami itself is located between the bay and the Everglades wetlands, which is now declared a protected area, the so-called National Park.

The climate of Florida makes the nearby Gulf Stream so mild, and if you wish, you can swim here all year round.

People come to Miami for the best beaches in the country, for exploring Biscayne National Park and the mysterious Everglades for a rich culture that mixes traditions of indigenous peoples, Hispanics and the ethnic majority.
