Cincinnati, or, as the locals call it, Cinci, would not be much different from other American cities if it were not for the German spirit in the air: houses, breweries, the American analogue of Oktoberfest, etc.

But today we are not talking about this city but about the Famous Zoo which is located in this city.

Today I will tell you more about Cincinnati Zoo.

Usually, zoos are not only a charge of emotions and impressions for a child, but also a great delight for skeptical adults.

It’s like a trip to the Madagascar cartoon, where you can watch zebras and elephants, giraffes and lemurs walk in their natural habitat.

Some zoos are huge zoological gardens with rare birds, others are the real Arctic with penguins and polar bears, others are the African savannah or the Asian jungle.

How Long Does It Take to Walk Through Cincinnati Zoo?

4 hours.

It took me around 4 hours by easy stages to walk through the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden but I have to say that walking around the zoo in summer was so tiring for me.

That’s why I suggest you to come in autumn and winter=)

Some visitors may spend half a day or more exploring the zoo.

There is a small train that can take you on a tour of the Cincinnati Zoo instead of walking.

The train there is a popular attraction so many visitors explore the zoo with it.

Of course it depends on you how fast or slow it will take you to walk through the Zoo.

If you do not have much time to walk through the Cincinnati Zoo, you can complete it in 1.30 hours if you are in a hurry.

What Is The Oldest Animal At the Cincinnati Zoo?

Gorilla Vernon.

Gorilla Vernon is the oldest mammal at the Cincinnati Zoo and the oldest male bonobo that is in human care.

Vernon has been living at the Cincinnati Zoo since 1992.

Why Did Cincinnati Workers Kill the Gorilla?

In 2016, a little boy climbed over the enclosure fence of the enclosure with a gorilla and fell into a moat with water, while his parents were nearby.

The gorilla took the child out of the water and began to carry it in its arms, while the boy screamed and cried.

A few minutes later, zoo officials shot the primate.

The officials did not dare to shoot the gorilla with sleeping pills, because it would not work immediately, and the boy was in danger.

What is the Famous Animal in the Cincinnati Zoo?

Fiona ,the hippo.

Fiona is the first Nile hippo and is the famous animal in the Cincinnati Zoo.

Fiona was born at the Cincinnati Zoo in 75 years and the first of the species to be scanned in the womb using ultrasound.

The baby hippo was born six weeks premature on January 24, 2017 with a birth weight of 13 kg.

And the zoo staff doubted that she would survive.

At first she was unable to stand and needed to be bottle fed with mother’s milk supplemented with infant formula.

The following month, during teething, she began to refuse the bottle and became dehydrated.

She was cared for by specialists from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Fans from all over the world followed the fate of the hippopotamus.

Fiona became the star of the zoo and the heroine of social networks.

To raise money for the care of Fiona, the hashtag #teamfiona was launched on social networks.

The image of a hippopotamus began to be printed on souvenirs, and beer was even released in honor of Fiona!

Fiona is fine today and her weight is 2000-pound =)

Who was Sarah at the Cincinnati Zoo?

In 2016, the world’s fastest female cheetah was euthanized at Cincinnati Zoo.

Sarah was the fastest animal in the world.

In 2009, during a run at the zoo, Sarah set the world record for running the 100 meters among animals, covering the distance in 6.13 seconds.

The cheetah’s record beat the world’sbest sprinter Usain Bolt by more than three seconds.

When Sarah was euthanized, she was 15 years old, although in the wild these animals live on average no more than 12 years.

The zoo management decided to take such a step due to a serious deterioration in the health of the cheetah.

In recent years, the animal was seriously ill and, as noted, euthanasia was the only humane way to end Sarah’s torment.

What is The Best Time to Visit the Cincinnati Zoo?

Morning on working days.

Morning, starting from 10-11 am on a working day is the best time to visit the Cincinnati Zoo.

In the mornings, around 10-11 am most animals are very energetic.

Most of the people come on weekends and it is not the best time to visit the Zoo on the weekend because of huge crowds.

Because of the crowds animals can be hidden in dark areas, which makes it difficult to spot them.

Nowadays, Cincinnati Zoo provides a daily live stream online.

Check-in starts around 3 p.m.

because that’s when the zoo hosts a daily live stream on their Facebook page.

Live Streams became popular in pandemic.

Many familiar things and entertainment in quarantine were not available.

Fortunately, a lot of entertainment has moved online.

It is unlikely that you went to zoos every day before the epidemic, but  anyway live stream  is a great way to relax and get distracted.
