The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is a chain of about 2,000 coral islands and rocks that lie between Florida and Haiti.
The sea breezes are cool on this island during the summer months.
The Bahamas’ unspoilt beaches attract more than two million visitors each year.
Most people live on either the Grand Bahama or New Providence and are descended from African slaves and British colonists.
The
Bahamas have a thriving tourism industry
.
Many banks and foreign companies have branches here because of the favorable tax laws.
What are the Best things to do in Bahamas?
Here is a rundown of all the exciting activities to do in here, in addition I will show you my favorite things to do and beautiful
places to visit on your next holiday to Bahamas
.
Blue Lagoon Island
During your stay in Nassau you will be able to realize the dream of a lifetime; to swim with dolphins!
It is necessary to book the Dolphin Encounter months before departure (it is recommended on the site).
There are 2 types of programs to discover; the Dolphin Encounter where there are 30 people on a platform and groups of 10 will go down into the water to pet and interact with dolphins.
You can choose the slightly more “interactive” 2
nd
program (Dolphin swim) also done in groups of 10 and allows you to descend into the water of the lagoon to experience getting kissed, embraced, and dance with the dolphins.
You have the chance to end the experience by doing the “foot push “, it is where 2 dolphins will push you from walking through the Blue Lagoon Island .
This program can make any person who knows how to swim get more courageous when in the water.
At a tolerable feet and cm it is compulsory to wear life jackets and it is impossible not to float.
The center leaves a really good impression and the animals have plenty of space to live.
Anyway, it is a natural lagoon and the interactions with tourists are very few.
By noon there was no one in the water and if ever there are guests they were free to swim quietly about their business.
During the visit to the Dolphin Center, there are tour operators who film everything so then you can buy the DVD and souvenir photos before leaving.
At the end of the experience, awaiting the return of the ferry that takes you back to Paradise Island you can pass the time on a beach of white sand right next to the center.
Anyway, you’re free to return to the center and take pictures from the catwalk to see the dolphins and sea lions.
My favorite stuff to do in Bahamas
The Atlantis Aquarium
The Atlantis Aquarium is something wonderful and together with the experience of interaction with the dolphins it is one of the inevitable things to do or see in Nassau, the capital city.
This
interesting place
is where you get to see all the species of imaginable fish from tropical to the endemic in bright and attractive colors.
There are sharks, seahorses, stingrays, turtles, and many other kinds of marine wildlife.
There is a cute souvenir shop where you can buy little key chains in all sorts of style and design.
Other than being a huge aquarium this really is a whole underwater world.
If you can go with your children, they will have an unforgettable experience.
There are many species of fish that you cannot see in any other aquarium in the world.
This sunken Atlantis is impressive in size and most importantly, offers an unusual design where you can see the fish on the bottom of the underwater tunnels, side and top.
Shoals of fish swim among the rocks imitating the ruins of the sunken city.
There are big fish varieties – groupers, stone fish, etc.
that freely swim here.
In addition to the aquarium, the attraction has many pools and the cost of use is included in the ticket price to the aquarium.
If you want to
visit the beach
and even a water park – the ticket price will be higher.
If you are in the neighborhood remember to make a visit here.
It’s worth it just to see the grandeur of the structure and have fun.
Fun things to do in Bahamas
Queen’s Staircase
Just a scale carved into the rock with 66 steps to commemorate the years of the reign of Queen Victoria.
Located on a steep hill, it is a turning point in the rock and a steep staircase made of concrete and bricks.
The incision into the rock looks like a short “canyon” that is overgrown by shady and tropical plants.
There are benches to sit on and the incision could well pass as a small attraction.
Going up here you can notice a fountain on the left and on the right that is barely visible.
You can walk further where there is a hole that leads to a tunnel and ends to the pier where the cruise ships are docked.
Locals say it serves as an escape route but it’s kind of hard to figure out why.
Perhaps for those who took care of the nearby Fort Fincastle, which is visible when climbing up the steps.
The staircase can also be seen at the top of the Water Tower that was built in 1928 to compensate for the lack of fresh water on the island.
From the top you can enjoy a beautiful view of New Providence (the island of Atlantis) but it is seldom open.
There is not much to see around here but it’s pretty and not a far walk from the harbor.
Popular Bahamas tourist attractions
Fort Fincastle
A fortress on the mountain city called “Bennet Hill”.
It is located on the highest
point overlooking the city of Nassau (Bahamas)
.
Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and is located on the island of New Providence.
Fort Fincastle offers an overall panoramic view of Nassau (from Fort Charlotte on the Hotel Atlantis Paradise to Iceland).
The fort was built by Lord Dunmore in 1793 and named after its second title “Viscount Fincastle.
”
Fort tours are from Monday to Sunday (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) conducted in the English language and gives a little insight into the life and work of the former soldiers who lost their lives while protecting this famous castle.
According to the guidebook the guns and the forts were never used.
The entrance fee is only a dollar.
It is designed to be affordable because there is not much to do and see at the fort.
If you go to the Queen’s Staircase, it is accessible through the fort.
There are three flashpoint periods and a 2-minute film showing.
What else to do in Bahamas ?
The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas
Situated just a few blocks from the central square is where you can find the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas.
Tourists received it as a most warm welcome from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The main exhibition is a retrospective work of artist Amos Ferguson, a Bahamian painter that is known internationally.
It is a nice surprise and a great discovery.
The children will enjoy strolling through the different rooms (air-conditioned).
Everyone can walk to the museum from the port while visiting other attractions.
The site gives the opportunity to see what it is like to be in a city like Nassau.
Exhibitions change regularly, check the website for the schedule of artists and the opening time.
The gallery is near the Junkanoo Museum.
It’s really close and both are worth visiting.
Is Bahamas worth visiting?
The answer is Yes.
Bahamas is worth visiting.
This is because it is such a magical place
full of beauty and magic.
Don’t forget to visit the following incredible place:
Sandy Toes
The Island of Sandy Toes is very nice with its fine white sand and it is possible to have a massage (1 hour = 85 dollars).
Some hammocks are provided to allow anyone who visits to relax.
Enjoy an excursion here with your family and bring packed picnic meals which are allowed.
It’s really worth to spend a day on this beautiful Caribbean beaches and enjoy a dip on its calm turquoise sea, white sand and a roar of the sea breaking gently on the shores.
In short, it is a perfect total relaxation place.
It takes a bit to get there, but when you get it is absolutely worth all the long travel and effort.
The island is small and there are secluded beaches that become almost private because it only comes with the packaged tours.
The snorkeling activity is not much because there is a coral reef where there is not much to see.
The lunch is passable, but the atmosphere is really nice and the island in general is a great way to find a secluded spot in the Bahamas.
It is an enchanting island where you can access a number of deserted beaches and have total privacy as if you are on a deserted beach.
Must see places in Bahamas
Cable Beach
Beautiful like all the other beaches in Nassau but the access is quite difficult.
There is no access from the street, you have to go inside one of the
resorts on the beach
.
Because of this, the beach fronts always look almost deserted with only a few people lounging on the chairs provided by the hotels.
Getting there is quite easy, just take the no.
10 bus in front of the Nassau Pirate Museum and the fare is $ 1.
25.
The driver tells you when you should come down to go to this beach.
There are beautiful homes in the area and it is just after the Fish Fry Restaurant.
The transparent warm water of this beach is ideal for snorkeling and deep sea diving.
You can rent jet skis in this area and there are several large hotels that offer water activities.
Well maintained, clean, and the spectacular colors of the sea, without a doubt this quiet beach is truly worth the visit.
What else to see in Bahamas ?
Count Basie Square
A nice promenade area and center for entertainment in the Freeport region with affordable prices but generally does not accept credit cards.
It is in the downtown area and perhaps the only “tourist” sector where anyone can go for a drink.
There are several bars, restaurants and a shop selling jewelry, plus it is near the casino and the best hotels.
For foreigners consider that almost no credit cards are accepted.
On the other hand, the prices are reasonable for being in a purely tourist area.
Shops and bars are made of wood and painted in bright colors such pink, orange or blue.
They are all well maintained and very clean.
On weekdays there is little movement.
The official language is English and most of the locals are African descendant.
It can be reached by ferry from Miami (Bahamas Express) for about 100 dollars round trip.
The Combi Shuttle Minibus travels back and forth from the port to the center and comes with a kind driver that acts as a “tour guide”.
Popular places to visit in Bahamas
Marine Habitat at Atlantis
The Marine Habitat attractions in the New Providence Island is a splendid park with beautiful beaches and one of the most beautiful and complete aquariums ever seen.
Unfortunately, it is a bit expensive but it is worth it.
At first it seems that it is only a hotel-style “Las Vegas” attraction that is a bit ‘quirky and no big surprises, but once past the entrance you will understand that Americans have with this mega complex just took to overcome eccentricity, fun, and comfort.
This mega hotel complex consists of a real lagoon with sharks and manta rays that swim inside.
The mega lagoon has glass parts where you can admire from the outside these wonderful specimens and crossed by a glass tunnel where you can move comfortably seated in rubber tires floating in the middle of these white sharks and beautiful manta rays.
Because the tunnel passes a Rivolino water, you can slide down comfortably seated in these rides made of plastic designed for one or two people to have a really nice experience.
Things to do in Bahamas with kids
Leon Levy Native Plant Reserve
In the Eleuthera Region is the best place to visit if you want to have a good overview of the flora and fauna in the Bahamas.
The whole system is built marvelously and you get a lot of information about the individual plants which are arranged according to groups such as mangrove forests, medicinal plants in various disease groups, poisonous plants, etc.
You can see how much love and the delicate maintenance of the plants are carried out.
For an attraction of this size it is surprising to see that is free of weeds.
This is a nice trip for plant and butterfly hobbyists.
