Langkawi which is fondly called as the island of legends is something very special and one of the top cities to visit when in Malaysia.
It is lined with attractive beaches, lots of nature, culture and cheap but good food.
The main island and the more than 90 smaller islands are highly recommended.
The views from the many decks on the island and the neighboring islands and mountains are impressive.
You can
even see Thailand
on a clear day!
One of the exciting things to do while here in Langkawi is to try the cable car ride from Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd.
The view from the summit is breathtaking and offers idyllic views of Langkawi and its encompassing landscapes.
The highlight is the Sky bridge that is stretched between the two mountain peaks.
However, you have to conquer many steps to arrive to this observation deck (through the jungle).
The Cable Car in Langkawi is interesting and the best place to start a tour of the island.
Best time to visit Langkawi?
The ideal time to visit the island is between January – March.
This is the dry season when there is for all intents and purpose no downpour and you get an entire day of brilliant daylight with warm temperature.
For those who anticipate a great rainless climate, the traveler stream (base on statistics) really begins from October and November and proceeds with well up to April.
This period additionally happens to harmonize with the numerous school break or holiday vacation.
Around this time the sea is more enticing and all water based exercises like; boating, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing and kite flying usually takes place.
However, numerous returning visitors like to visit between the months of April to August.
This is likewise called the mid season.
While there will be incidental downpours with overcast sky and at times storms, they are usually short and makes the weather a bit colder towards the afternoon.
The low season occurs during the months of September t- October.
This is the stormy season and this is the period which most travelers like to avoid.
One great drawback or biggest turn-off for tourists during this time is the sea would swell and get to be harsh, along these lines limiting the watercraft visits and water based sports and excursions.
Best things to do in Langkawi
These are my favorite things to do and beautiful places to visit on your next holiday to Langkawi.
Langkawi Cable Car (Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd)
An experience that literally takes your breath away, especially if you have problems with dizziness.
You must go up these cabins designed for 6 people and travel above the forest for about fifteen minutes to the first stop where you get off and goes around the platform to see the best views.
You can also climb in the cab for a shorter trip to go to a another peak at about the same height and if the weather permit makes you see the whole Langkawi Island.
You may also try to arrive on a scooter and the ticket input is cheap, there are also souvenir shops and various attractions for children including a pond for fishing.
It is magnificent and there are several bus stops on points in increasing height from which you can enjoy the panorama of Langkawi.
Be sure to visit.
But keep in mind that the weather changes suddenly.
If you come up and everything is overcast and the clouds are thick, you have to wait a bit to see the alluring sights of the island.
My favorite stuff to do in Langkawi
Dataran Lang
Dataran Lang is a large square adorned on the sides by flowering trees (exotic flowers) and dominated by the statue of a great eagle (skillfully built and radiates its own charm and appeal).
The eagle faces the sea, on top of a terrace from which you can admire the view and the wide horizon of the maritime.
On the square, is where they often held public performances and national events because of its suitable frame.
Just before the square are shops and stalls selling souvenirs, clothes, drinks.
It is a point of great tourist passage but interesting for the view it offers and for the souvenir photos most people love to do on the main star of this attraction which is also considered one of the national symbols of Langkawi.
Fun things to do in Langkawi
Kilim Karst Geoforest Park
The Kilim Karst Geoforest Park offers an amazing tour of the mangrove jungle where you can feed the eagles, and take a visit to the bat cave along with meeti9ng some cheeky monkeys along the way.
The park is notable for the fact that it is there where you can freely interact with the animals of the wild in Langkawi.
Aside from feeding the eagles, you can also observe the life of the lizards, snakes, crabs, and swim in the clear turquoise sea on one of the small wild beaches.
If you are going to Langkawi, be sure to take a trip to the Geoforest Park.
It is here that you will get to meet the White Eagle – the symbol of the island and getting close to see these beautiful birds is just one of the interesting activities to do here.
Be sure to buy food for the eagles and once you see one, throw the food in the water.
The eagles will swoop it down, giving lots of chances to take amazing photos.
Another must visit is the cave of bats.
Watch and observe how they rapidly respond to the flashlight, along with their peculiar smell once you reach their cave.
The fish farm is also very interesting especially for kids.
You can have lunch there while seeing some sharks, fugu (puffer fish poison) and dining on some crabs, lobsters, shrimps, mussels, oysters, and clams.
It is a beautiful experience that is certainly recommended.
Popular Langkawi tourist attractions
Tanjung Rhu
The Tanjung Rhu is a gorgeous beach that is located inside a nature reserve which can be accessed for free by filling out a simple self-certification and deliver it to the guard at the bar access.
The beach has been inserted at position N49 among the most beautiful beaches in the world by CNN.
It is a white sand beach with deep green in the stacks and completely covered by vegetation, some within walking distance at low tide!
There are very few loungers with parasols that are for rent for just 10RM.
It is connected to the small adjoining bar where you can eat and enjoy fruit juice.
Adjacent to this paradise is the harbor with lots of boats to make the trips at good prices.
It offers incredible views of the coast and on the islands in front of which at low tide you can easily reach on foot.
To the right side walking on the beach, you can get to a nice place that is even more isolated with logs to sit on and enjoy the view.
It is an enchanting place to visit in Langkawi absolutely!
Tanjung Rhu is a white sand beach surrounded by a
captivating landscape with a visible image of the nearby islands of Thailand
.
The last stretch of the road is private and closed to the beach.
It is here where you will find shops, bars and restaurants in the Malaysian style beach.
It also provides the opportunity to have a boat available for 2 hours to about 350 RMI (just under € 90) for snorkeling and island hopping, a visit to a company of breeding fish (interesting) and a visit to the mangroves with the vision of giving a wonderful meal for eagles (absolutely fantastic).
Do not miss this opportunity.
Most tourists thought it was something artificial making them a bit worried.
But it is actually one of the most exciting experiences of traveling in Langkawi because, you can never see (anywhere else) so many considerable eagles come to fish a few meters from the boat.
It is an opportunity for great photos!
What else to do in Langkawi?
Langkawi Wildlife Park
The Langkawi Wildlife Park is not very big, but there are a lot of interesting animals to see(e.
g.
mouse deer, ostrich, parrots, echidna, rabbits, dwarf deer, goat, hedgehogs, peacocks, flamingos and other various birds.
).
At the entrance gate they sell packages of food for animals.
And once you get inside you can feed the animals.
Just be aware that some animals are fed only at certain times, there is information provided in the guidebooks.
The process of feeding the animals here captivates not only children but also adults.
You’ll like the fact that of getting to a large pavilion, where the birds fly overhead and walk side by side without fences.
It promotes a lot of positive emotion and kids are the ones that are usually more delighted of the close encounter with the animals.
At the entrance of the park there is a duty free zone where you can buy soft drinks and slightly to the right of the fund has a shop with teas.
There are lots of chances to buy gifts and options to buy original and imported products making it a sin not to buy.
Is Langkawi worth visiting?
The answer is Yes.
Langkawi is worth visiting.
This is because it is such a magical place
full of beauty and adventours.
Make sure you visit the following stunning place:
Underwater World
The Underwater World is an interesting way to learn more of the fish from the sea and animals that you will encounter in Langkawi.
The aquariums are set up very nicely.
The entrance fee cost $10 for adults.
The one hour tour allows you to see everything in all levels.
Seeing the underwater world of the wildlife marine animals is a very fun activity with much diversity.
Also nice are the penguins, which you must follow in the tunnel.
Although it is not a very large aquarium globally and mostly addressed for children, even adults will be delighted to visit because of the interesting and pleasant way that these nice aquariums and many species of fish and marine animals are presented.
It provides a relaxing time for all with the passage in several areas like the wet areas with more ice with penguins and other seals.
There is also an auditorium where you can watch a movie about saving the Earth (very interesting) and what to see inside the attraction.
On weekends, they have a snake show with cobras but rest assured because the Sultan (the trainer), which presents the show knows his stuff!
For a certain amount, you can even have your picture taken in a beautiful setting with a python (about 3m!
) tied around the neck!
What else to see in Langkawi?
Pasir Tengkorak Beach
The Pasir Tengkorak Beach is a great place for solitude with nature that is equipped with a good approach, clean sand, and clean water.
However, there are quite a lot of monkeys so it is best not to leave your things scattered and to keep everything in one bag or backpack.
It is the only beach in Langkawi with white sand that feels like fine flour.
Although it is a small beach, it is very comfortable and clean.
If it’s not the peak season there are very few people giving guests lots of time to frolic and enjoy its crystal clear waters in a paradise like setting.
Even if it’s a bit secluded it has a complete beach infrastructure and nearby there is a café, a cloakroom, and toilets.
Popular places to visit in Langkawi
Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls
The Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls is located in a park near the cable car.
And in principle, it can be seen at the rise and with viewing platforms.
But with its imposing heights, definitely it’s the ideal place to see the entire island of Langkawi.
The rise is the most simple but you need to climb a ladder to the very long trail.
Arriving directly at the waterfall, of course it is quite slippery, so if you can, take the second option which is to climb near the waterfall.
Swimwear is definitely required and it is impossible not to swim in the cool clear water.
If you have the strength and courage – try to climb higher, but the rocks are very slippery so be extra careful.
There are lots of places to dive and swim a little, but all, including the locals you will meet are friendly enough, so make a good picture and enjoy the water without any problems.
Armed with stunning views in a delightful park, do not miss this adventure when you’re in Langkawi island.
Things to do in Langkawi with kids
Cenang Beach
It is the most active beach of the island during the day and at night but not as chaotic or crowded like the other beaches in Langkawi.
The sand is almost white, the waters are clear as throughout the island, you can enjoy various water sports during the day and in the evening there are a large number of restaurants and bars where you can watch the sunset while sipping something cold.
It lies next from of hotels and resorts of the island.
This beach is always windy, so it’s a great place for Parasailing.
You can also rent out a scooter to easily get
around and see other parts of the beach
.
It is fun to splash in the waves.
And in the evening awaits the stunning sunset, filled with bright colors of the passing day and leaving the soul in a calm state of peace and happiness.
At night, you can watch the moon and bright stars, while the crabs scurry in the sand.
Things to do around Langkawi
Tengah Beach
The Tengah Beach is a nice quiet beach where you can enjoy the fun, sea, and the beautiful sunset.
In the evening it gets crowded with the mix of tourists locals who also take a dip in the lovely warm sea water.
This beach is a continuation of Cenang Beach, but less social than the famous beach, but from this side it is more wonderfully peaceful.
Both beaches are very close together.
And both are equipped with strong and occasional hearty waves making it ideal for surfing, Jet Ski, and parasailing adventures.
The beach has good sand and it is certainly not a beach with a good advertising booklet, but it has managed to have its own identity with a good following.
Tengah Beach has yellowish white sand and less rocky parts that are good for swimming in the waves.
Enjoy the warm water of the sea and the complete absence of jellyfish in the second half of September.
The beach itself is not bad, but compared to other beaches in Langkawi it loses a bit in terms of the purity of water and waves.
One of the benefits is it is not so heavily loaded with tourists like that of Cenang Beach and it is definitely much quieter.
The island of Langkawi in
Malaysia
is an absolutely worthwhile excursion that you can enjoy with your family and travel buddies.
The island is an outright beach destination and you would be disillusioned in the event that you came to the island searching for shopping or sightseeing tours.
There is not much of it here.
Your decision on where to
stay during your tour is one of the key factors on how you will enjoy
the majestic island.
Forget any travel itinerary, because most of the objective here is to lie along the sandy shores of the beaches and if that’s the kind of vacation you plan to have then you would really appreciate Langkawi
Malaysia
.
