Los Angeles

is a huge metropolis with several airports.

I have flown there once by plane, and also have traveled the route

Los Angeles –

Las Vegas

It takes 8 hours and 45 minutes by Amtrak.

Amtrak carries tens of millions of passengers every year between almost every state in the US.

Is Amtrak Ever Cheaper Than Flying?

No,Amtrak is even more expensive than flying.

Amtrak tickets are more like plane tickets than train tickets.

I recommend (as with airline tickets) not to wait too long before buying tickets.

Do not delay the purchase until a few days before departure, but book tickets in advance to be able to get them at a relatively favorable price.

Very few last minute seats are available and tickets can be very expensive.

Amtrak is expensive because:

Railroads own all their own equipment and infrastructure.

Workers need to maintain it and of course pay taxes on it.

While US airports are built and paid for with taxpayer money, the airlines only pay to use the facilities and to maintain their own aircraft.
