Camino Way taught me to be simpler and showed that a person needs very little to be happy: to have where to sleep, what to eat.
It’s very cool to discuss at the end of the day how you and other guys went the same route, but each one was different.
Today I will give you some details of Camino Way
How Many Miles a Day Do You Walk on the Camino?
Usually it is 12 miles a day.
In the first half of the day, I always walked easily and quickly.
Usually by lunchtime, you are already a little tired, you want to eat, the sun is hot – it’s time to relax.
In almost all cafes on the way, they prepare a pilgrim menu: for 6-10 euros they serve you soup, salad, main course and even wine!
By 6-7 o’clock I always reached the next albergue took a shower, rest, and dinner. On Camino Way I never cooked by myself, I either had dinner in a café or bought food in a supermarket.
What is the Best Camino Route for Beginners?
It is the Portuguese route, starting in Porto and it is 168 miles.
I went for several reasons. First, walking meditation is my favorite form of meditation. I love walking.
The second is that I get very tired of the city, informational noise and frantic rhythm, and here is such an opportunity to be away from people and next to the ocean.
Third, I like to delve into myself and look for answers to questions. And finally, I wanted to live in the moment.
I walked the Portuguese route, started in Porto and walked 168 miles.
The most popular route is the French Path, which starts from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, and it is 485 miles.
I got to Porto by Ryanair for 20 euros from Warsaw.
You can get to Saint-Jean from Bordeaux , and fly to Bordeaux from Warsaw for 20 euros (I looked at different options, but this one seemed the most convenient to me). Also, the same Ryanair can fly to Madrid, Barcelona and other cities and start there.
Why do I advise you to go either French or Spanish or Portuguese?
Because due to their popularity, the route itself is full of albergues, well marked (pilgrims follow the yellow arrows, not Google maps) .
By the way, “many pilgrims” are not crowds.
During the day I met up to 10 people, and then in the albergue it converged up to 30-50, and we gathered for an international dinner all together.

How Many Hours a Day Do You Walk on the Camino?
It takes 6-8 hours a day.
Every day passes plus or minus the same way.
Albergue must be left before 8 am.
The pilgrims got up already at 5 o’clock, did yoga and immediately went out. I slept until the last moment, because I did not see the point and did not show much enthusiasm to go until dawn. Getting out this early is due to several things.
Firstly, in the morning you are not walking in the heat, and secondly, there will definitely be places in the hostels.
Those who went out at 5-6 in the morning were already at the new point by lunchtime and had a rest. I was in no hurry and left at 8 am. I walked pretty fast, because somewhere at breakfast, at 10 am, we crossed paths with those who left a couple of hours earlier.
My Belongings
Half of my backpack was occupied by a sleeping bag, because there is no bed in hostels. Also inside the backpack were: flip flops, 2 T-shirts, shorts, pajamas, fleece jacket, windbreaker, dress (optional), band-aid, underwear, a small first aid kit, a towel, shampoos, balms, shower gels in mini sizes, a raincoat (it is important to buy a normal one, but not disposable) And some other little things.
I walked in regular running shoes, they did a great job on the route. It is important not to buy shoes just before departure.
Because one of my friends bought super trekking boots, and they rubbed him so hard that he had to cut holes in these shoes.
You can always wash things in hostels, so I don’t see the point in dragging a lot of clothes.
How Many Miles a Day Do You Walk on the Camino?
What is The Hardest Part of the Camino de Santiago?
It is a part of a French Way, where you have to cross the great mountain range.
It was the day I walked 31 miles!
That day it seemed to me that a tank drove over me🤦♂️.
When is The Best Weather for Camino Way?
The weather is different in different regions of the country and is not the same on the routes.
So, the Northern route is cold.
On a summer day, the sun is bright and 95°, at night the temperature drops to 37 ° Fahrenheit. At the same time, it is always sunny and windy on the Portuguese Way.
Recommendations are:
May, June, September are the best months for weather and accommodation. The shelters are half empty.
July and August are hot, with a minimum of rain, and a lot of pilgrims. They start in the first days of each month and arrive on the 20th-30th. At the same time, more than 1000 people go on the routes, the albergues are overcrowded.
October-April are cold months, damp with strong winds. The roads are muddy, hard to walk even with sticks. Shelters are empty or closed.
