The background of this museum is as interesting as the Museum itself.

The artwork that has been showcased here is the actual line of gifts between a husband and a wife who were great friends with Andre Derain.

Top things to do in Troyes France,  Troyes attractions

Ruelle Des Chats

Roughly translated to the Alley of the Cats, this dark and narrow stretch leads to the most mesmerizing location that you would find.

Almost as old as four complete centuries, the upper floors almost touch the historic era of construction and is almost like stepping backwards into the middle ages.

There is a history of many horses and their legends in this area.

When you notice the walls in this area, you would notice a string of stones along the bases of the walls.

This was meant to give a lot of walking space to the pedestrians, when the horses clattered by.

Ruelle Des Chats

Earlier Ruelle Des Chats had a huge population of cats that would be roaming around freely.

There have been many stories related to the cats, their nine lives and their miracles that are still alive in the folklore here.

Try spotting the cats in the stone works at this place.

This place is dark and eerie compared to other alleys and narrow roads in this area and the mystery element has been retained to lend that feel on purpose.

A small walk in this alley will have you wanting more and you might want to dwell in the local legends a bit more.

Apothicairerie de l’hotel Dieu le Comte

This Apothicairerie de l’ hotel Dieu le Comteis an 18th Century Apothecary and is a delightful view of the early medicine and the prescriptions for diseases.

Upon entering the place, you would be given the English booklets to help you understand the place and the processes completely.

This place is a highly recommended for a visit to understand the principles of ancient medicine.

Considering that all the people today do not believe in anything except the best doctor and the best medicine to be the cure of their diseases, this place would make you realize that there were ailments much before we existed and there were ghastly recipes for cures that did heal people at that time too.

Apothicairerie de l’hotel Dieu le Comte

Almost similar to homeopathy, it is a combination of ineffective potions and the great placebo effect and can sure almost 50% of the diseases.

The exhibits here

are very impressive and one of the most beautiful in France

.

Rich collections in earthenware pots and painted medical boxes are a delight to see.

For those who love Pharmacopoeia, this

place should not be missed

.

You would not be able to find something remotely close to this anywhere.

The wood paneled pharmacy will leave you spell bound.

The labeling and the raw materials shall surprise you further.

The rare medicines, the rare bottles and the rarest recipes- cures here are many and strange.

If for nothing else, visit this place to quench your curiosity of how the royals were treated.

Top Troyes tourist activities

Store 1520

Now this place is a shopper’s delight.

Almost called the best concept store of the world, shopping at

Store 1520 would leave you asking for more.

Located in the narrow streets of downtown, this place is one of its kinds.

You can shop for all fashion brands and items here.

A collection of very good products, and a huge variety to choose from, makes this place the best shopping joint.

You may also be able to contemplate the works of Mr.

Brainwash and Banksy in a good way and in a positive, young atmosphere.

If you are visiting Troyes, this place is definitely a visit you should not miss.

The concept of mixing art with fashion is a relatively new and this store does it the best.

Pick from your selections of art, modern art, art works and sculptures and if not enough, go ahead and shop for your favorite brands at good rates here.

A lot of souvenirs that you could carry back home!

Italia Mia

If food is on your menu for the day, then you should be making a quick reservation call to the friendly and loving staff of Italia Mia.

Rated as one of the best restaurants in Troyes, this place is rocking with awesome crowd and awesome menus.

Choose from a huge variety of menu items, each better than the other in its own way.

This restaurant offers you comfortable seating and has the services you could envy.

Cozy and alive, the atmosphere will keep you lingering around this area.

Most of the items in the menu are freshly made in house with no preservatives or half cooked ingredients used.

This makes it very apt for people who are paranoid about eating stale food in the restaurants.

Above all, you would love to sit here and relax while your food is coming.

My favorite stuff to do in Troyes

Eglisde Ste-Madeleine

The oldest and the most intriguing neighborhood church of Troyes is a religious place open to sightseeing and tourism.

This Eglisde Ste Madeleine church has a very Gothic feel to it and is as old as the 13

th

century.

The splendid Gothic rood screen is the highlight of the place, which is a major tourist attraction in Troyes.

This Rood Screen divides the choir and the transept.

A glass in the presbytery dating back to the 16

th

century portrays the scenes of the Genesis.

A statue of the serious faced Ste-Marthe, is placed strategically almost as if overseeing the entire activity of the church.

The pillar from the wooden pulpit is considered to be one of the masterpieces of the 15

th

century School of architecture.

Maison de ‘l’outil et de la Pensee Ouvriere

Stunning displays and grand architecture of this place will keep you in awe of the beauty and the craftsmanship of this place.

Long before the use of modern machines and instruments, lives did go full circle with the local handmade tools and instruments that were used for chores and constructions.

This is a museum just for that.

This place is a must visit to understand the lives of the carpenters and masons.

There are tools belonging to all walks of life that are displayed here, in this lovely building.

There is no explanation on why the tools were designed the way they are but they are strange and some of them are even funny.

Not just the display exhibits, but the courtyard of Maison de l’ Outil et de la Pensee Ouvriere has to be the best in town.

A concise guide of the tools would be needed for us to pick out the tool that we want to work with.

Just looking at them would mean getting confused and not knowing what to do with which tool.

Something like our great grandparents may have used in their times.

Renting out the English record is an easy and comfortable way of getting acquainted with the instruments.

The museum tells the story of the craftsmen and workers, relating them through the history and explaining how each tool was used for a precise purpose.

France has many locations that capture the tourist’s

eye.

But there are some places that are just meant to be the way they are.

Troyes in

France is one of them

.

Totally different and yet in league with the world today, this place is a must visit if you want to see the blend of earlier times and the present day in terms of lifestyle, constructions and history.

The French War memorial is also a place worth a visit for its heartwarming displays of the victories and the defeats of the French in the wars.

The histories of battles narrated inside will leave some of you teary eyed.

Troyes is a beautiful place meant for beautiful people.

You have to visit this place if you are planning a vacation.
