I live in Los Angeles, a city with horrible urban sprawl, so I prefer to live in a denser and more walkable place.
However, many cities in the south are also full of sprawl.
I came from Cameroon for my Master’s and have stayed back after graduation.
I love family and found a black community in Los Angeles, where I have the solace to quench homesickness in America.
Where do most black professionals live?
Most black professionals are not in Los Angeles, but in Washington.
I have been to Texas and love the huge concentration of blacks in that state.
The number of black professionals and business owners in the city is the thing I love so much about the city.
Generally, Texas as a state is a business hub.
Houston is the city that has the strongest economy in America and is among the cities with one of the strongest job markets.
Of all the cities in America, Houston is home to the 4th most corporate headquarters of Fortune 500 companies.
Where do most Black professionals live?

Washington, DC, is where you will see the largest number of black professionals in America.
These are the cities you can relocate to as a black professional.
I have a list of places where you can become successful as a black in the business world.
Here is my list:
Raleigh, North Carolina
Raleigh is the first city in North Carolina I will talk about in this blog.
The city is lively and a nice place for millennials.
The city is good to live in.
North Carolina, Texas, and Florida are the states I call rising stars in America.
The economy of Raleigh is very strong compared to other cities of size.
Its reputation as a tech hub is fast growing.
There is an area known as Triangle, which connects three different research facilities in 3 different universities in 3 different cities, Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.
Raleigh is a hub for tech talent.
The city is ranked the #6 hottest job market in America because of this.
There is an increase in IT job opportunities across North Carolina.
Raleigh has a strong live music scene for your enjoyment and growing art scenes.
With so many universities in the area, Raleigh has a lot of young people living in it.
Charlotte, North Carolina
Charlotte is among the top cities we selected on our list, and it is the second city from North Carolina I will discuss.
The city has a lot of job opportunities and a big real estate market.
This is the reason there is a mass migration of people from places like New York to it.
Charlotte is a Queen City, popular for banking and the financial market.
It is a city with a large population of Black Americans, just like Atlanta.
The rate of black homeownership and the strong economy is the reason behind this.
The real estate market of Charlotte is another thing that trips me to the city.
Housing in the city is cheaper than it is in Raleigh.
It is also more dense and walkable than Raleigh.
Charlotte is a fast-growing city.
It just overtook Indianapolis to become the 16th largest city in America.
Tampa Bay, Florida
All the cities on our list are among the Forbes top 10 cities for black business owners except Tampa Bay.
However, there are reasons Tampa made it to our list.
The city is a coastal city, its weather is warm almost every time of the year, and it has a strong real estate market.
The third fastest-growing city in Florida is Tampa, Miami is second, and Jacksonville is the first.
Florida does not collect income taxes, and its tax rate is generally low.
This is why the state made it to America’s list of fastest-growing states.
People who live in other expensive cities and people who need to change their environment migrate to Florida because of its sunny weather, low taxes, and cheap housing.
You can ride a bike, and stroll in the streets of downtown Tampa.
There was a rejuvenation of the waterfront after the Water Street Tampa redevelopment project in 2015.
There are many nice beaches and nice sunshine in Tampa also.
Houston, Texas
There are many reasons we added Houston to the top of our list.
I am happy it has a large population of blacks, but the black population is very diverse.
Although Los Angeles is diverse in some sense, the black population in it is not large and very segregated.
Houston is cheap to live in when compared to other big cities.
It is a perfect place to invite in real estate if you are a first-time investor.
It is among the fastest-growing cities in America, and many developments are going on in the city.
San Antonio, Texas
We have many reasons for having San Antonio on our list.
Texas was ranked high on our list because of the state’s economic strength, which includes cheap housing, job opportunities, zero state income tax, and overall population increase.
The state also has friendly gun ownership laws.
For reasons best known to us, we rate San Antonio higher than Houston.
Although San Antonio is a small city, it has a small population, a low cost of living, less traffic, is a bit slower-paced, and is perfect for relaxation.
The downtown of San Antonio has a true city core, but Houston does not have any city core, rather, it is made up of many different neighborhoods.
This is one of the things I hate about Los Angeles.
San Antonio is veterans-friendly because it is the home of the USA, Navy Federal, several military bases, and a strong veteran community.
Talking about the weather, San Antonio is a bit less humid and more chaotic than Houston.
It is the reason we prefer it to Houston.
Although San Antonio does not have beaches or lakes, it has a waterfront and beautiful riverwalk areas.
