It is because of the sharks.

In Florida, bull sharks are responsible for 117 attacks on humans, 25 of which have died.

This type of shark is extremely aggressive and is found mainly off the East Coast of the United States and in the Gulf of Mexico.

They can also be found even in freshwater.

This is a large shark, reaching 11 feet in length and weighing more than 287 pounds, it feeds ondolphins, turtles, sea birds and even people!

Their jaws are considered one of the most powerful among all other marine predators.

They hunt mainly in muddy water, but there have been cases when a predator attacked livestock near the shore off the East Coast.

What Time Do Sharks Feed in Florida?

Night, dusk, dawn is the time when sharks feed in Florida.

To protect yourself from a shark attack, avoid swimming at night, at dusk and dawn, when sharks are most active and come to feed to shallow water.

Sharks bite more often in the summer just because there are more people in the water .

I think most often the shark bites, then understands: “Oh, you are not a fish” and lets go of the person.

But, of course, the marks of the teeth remain.

The largest number of attacks occurs in coastal waters at a distance of up to 600 feet from the coast, in places where people swim.

Whom Do Sharks in Florida Attack Most?

Surfers are the most commonly attacked, accounting for 51% of incidents.

This group spends a lot of time in an area commonly frequented by sharks and may inadvertently attract predators.

39% of attacks are related to swimmers, 6% to bodysurfers, and 4% to snorkelers and freed divers.

In 2022, several attacks were recorded off the coast of Florida.

As for different countries:

In February a shark killed a 35-year-old man in Sydney, and in July news from Egypt thundered in the media about two deadly attacks in tourist Hurghada.

In summer 2022 in Britain, off the coast of Cornwall, a swimmer suffered a leg injury as a result of a shark bite.

For safe swimming it is better to avoid the rivers in Florida.

Bull sharks, great white sharks and tiger sharks often hunt in muddy waters.

It is also dangerous to be near fishing boats, as fishermen throw dead fish or parts of them overboard, which attracts the attention of sharks.

Shiny objects can also attract a shark.

In the water, a shark might think that a flash of light is a sign of food.

Why Can a Shark Attack?

Most often, sharks attack people by mistake, because humans are not part of their regular diet.

Usually, after the first bite, a shark realizes that it has chosen the wrong target and retreats, but strong jaws and sharp teeth can cause fatal injury from the first contact with a human.

I know that some research has shown that sharks attack humans because they confuse them with seals and sea lions.

Surfers, swimmers and seals and sea lions on the surface of the ocean look the same to a shark looking up because sharks cannot see fine details or colors.

Also, quite often, shark attacks occur when a person is engaged inspearfishing.

Predators are attracted to the smell of blood and the electrical impulses emitted by a dying fish.

When a shark arrives at a spear fishing place, it can get excited by the abundance of prey available and become quite dangerous.

In this state, hungry and aggressive sharks may attack a person and inflict serious injuries.

Which Sea Has No Sharks?

In general, I can say that sharks are found in all seas, but the Black and Caspian Seas are the safest from this point of view.

The reason for this is a rather low temperature, a weak food base, and a high degree of water pollution.

What is the Most Famous Shark Attack?

The most famous shark attack occurred in the Pacific Ocean in 1945, when the American USS Indianapolis Ship was torpedoed by the Japanese and sank.

The rescue team arrived at the scene only three days after the fact of the crash, because in view of the extreme secrecy of the mission carried out by Indianapolis, no one knew about what had happened.

When the rescuers arrived, only 316 people survived out of more than a thousand who survived the shipwreck.

Responsibility for all these deaths was on long-winged, blue and tiger sharks, which killed about 700 people in 3 days!
