Whenever I draw my bucket list, I add hunting wild hogs in Florida.

However, I have not had the opportunity of hunt these creatures.

Lake Okeechobee has a large number of wild hogs if you want to hunt for them.

People who reside in Florida know that the state is very diverse.

A good size of the state’s land mass away from the coast is covered by swampy marshes and dense pine forests.

This is where you will see all kinds of creatures roaming Florida in large numbers.

The Sunshine state is home to the second largest number of wild boar in the country, next to Texas.

There are over 500,000 wild boar in Florida.

You will see less of pigs in places where there are intensive agricultural activities or urban developments.

There are no licenses or permits required for you to hunt here.

If you want to go hog hunting here, you will have a guide, transportation, cleaning, and quartering of the hogs you catch.

All hunt times can fit your schedule, be it a full day of hunting, half day, or nighttime hunting.

You either come with your hunting gear or rent from the operators of the place.

You will enjoy the family-friendly nature of the hunts.

They have no restrictions on group sizes.

Both experienced and new hunters are free to hunt.

There is always a professional staff who is handy with answers to all your questions or assists you where necessary.

 

West Shore Outfitters

For those who love hunting closer to the coast, West Shore Outfitters is the perfect destination for you.

It is located in New Smyrna Beach and offers different levels of prices and discounts.

You can choose from half-day and full-day hunts.

You will have the opportunity to use thermal imaging technology to hunt wild boar at night.

Veterans, groups, and children are offered discounts.

They will clean, quarter, chill, and process your hog.

Just give the meat to your guide and pick it up at the processor at the cost of $130 per animal.

First-timers are thrilled by this service.

Okeechobee Outfitters

Okeechobee Outfitters want to embark on a truly authentic hunting tour of Florida with their guests.

It is all about the anxiety and thrill associated with hog hunting.

You can go hunting with rifles, pistols, archery, or spears, and they will give you overnight packages for between one and three nights.

The package consists of one hog meat, lodging, and meals.

They will also skin and quarter your hog.

An award is given to anyone that catches the biggest hog.

Lightsey Family Ranch

Lightsey Family Ranch is another top destination for hog hunting.

The ranch is located in Venus, Florida.

This is a ranch where you can sit on top of a swamp buggy to hunt a hog, or you can perch on top of a tree to hunt the wild pig.

With $200 per night, you can book accommodation in one of the private lodge rooms on the Ranch.

This cost is inclusive of meals that will be cooked for you by the in-house chef.

From as far back as the 1990s, the owners of Alligator Alley Outfitters have been making every effort to bring down the hunting experience and charm they have in the mid-west to south Florida.

They have a system whereby they rotate their hunts between their two locations which are inside and around Punta Gorda, Florida.

Alligator Alley Outfitters offers single-day and multi-day hog hunts for all party sizes.

They do not allow hunting with strangers.

Swine in the Pines

The Swine in the Pines has a simple mission statement that says, “to promote safe, responsible, ethical hunting in the pursuit of outdoor fellowship with family, friends, and the feral hog”.

It is located one hour south of Tampa.

Osceola Outdoors is a hunting club in Moore Haven that conducts total free-range hog hunts every day of the week.

There are pine islands, oak hammocks, improved pastures, citrus groves, and marsh ponds in the terrain of Osceola Outdoors.

There are many wild hogs in this place.

There are lots of hunt varieties in Osceola Outdoors, depending on the weapon you have and the range you desire.

Mid Florida Outfitters

Mid Florida Outfitters has a lot of memories to leave with you.

You will find it between Orlando and Tampa.

Yes, the 67 counties of Florida are all home to wild hogs.

You can see them in different kinds of habitats, but their most preferred habitats are oak-cabbage palm hammocks, freshwater marshes, and sloughs, pine Flatwoods, and more open agricultural areas.



Does wild hog taste like regular pork?

The meat of wild pigs is much leaner and taste than that of commercially-raised ones.

It is common knowledge that pigs which are allowed to move around taste better than pigs that were kept in pens.

 Are Florida wild hogs good for eating?

Yes, there is nothing wrong with eating wild hogs.

They have very delicious meat, more than the home-grown ones because of their lean body.

They behave almost the same way other domestic animals behave.

Note, ensure that the cooking temperature goes above 160 F to destroy the pathogens in it.
