According to a report by the Cities and Economics Intelligence Units, approximately 80% of the world’s population lives in cities.

Cities also account for most of the economic growth experienced by different countries.

It is estimated that in a few decades to come, all growth will be influenced by cities and probably there will be more cities to account for this growth.

Although cities in South America and Asia are increasingly experiencing growth, most of the growth comes from cities in North America and Europe.

Find below the top five most developed cities based on human capital, financial readiness and economic progress.

Also taken into account is the appeal of these cities to people around the world.

New York

Many people around the globe will love for a chance to live in New York if they could afford it.

This is the financial capital of the world with many defining financial operations that influence world economy happening here.

In terms of financial maturity, it is right to say that New York is the most mature of any city around the world.

It also boast of highly skilled workers who are well trained to carry out the high profile functions required of them.



London

This is another city that is financially mature and has all the right institutions necessary to encourage growth.

Although this is an old city, its population is still growing and is expected to rise by at least by six million by the year 2025.

This is one city where bureaucracy is at its highest.

Everybody knows the English love protocol.

This is a competitive city with a lot of highly skilled workers competing for high profile jobs.

London is also well known for its high street where a lot of shopping takes place.



Singapore

Only a few years ago, nobody would have given this city a second look but today it is an epitome of good governance.

In just a few decades, the local authorities were able to turn this city that used to be made up of slump neighbourhoods to one of the cities in the world with the most high rise buildings.

This clean city is gradually becoming a hub for multinational companies with many setting up shop here.

Hong Kong

This is another city that boasts of many high rise buildings than many other cities put together.

It is densely populated and has become a major hub for businesses in Asia.

Even with all this, the economy of the city still needs to experience some growth.



Tokyo

This is the electronic capital of the world with some of the biggest names in electronics headquartered here.

The city has a good financial systems and it infrastructure in the city is designed with future natural disasters in mind.

In short Tokyo is a futuristic city with technology playing a huge part in everyday life
