Vacation & Trip Countdown

The days, sleeps and weekends until your trip, counting down live, and the weather to expect when you land. Keep it as a link on your phone, a wallpaper, a paper chain for the kids or a widget on your blog.

What kind of trip

When do you leave?Pick the day your trip starts: the days to go, the sleeps, the weekends and the weather then appear here, and the link keeps them.

Counted on this device’s own clock and calendar. Weather: NASA POWER daily values, 2006–2025.

Count the calendar days from today to the day you leave: tomorrow is 1 day away, and a trip on the same weekday next week is 7. Pick your date above and the countdown runs live to the minute, with the sleeps, the weekends to go and the weather you will land in.

How to use it

Type the day you leave, and the time if you know it (your flight, the ship’s boarding, the park opening). Pick where you are going from the list, or choose “Somewhere else” and give your trip a name: “Our honeymoon”, “Disney World”, “Grandma’s”. Pick the kind of trip for the picture it gets. The answer changes as you type, and the link keeps everything: copy it, open it on your phone and add it to your home screen, and it opens on your countdown every day. Nothing is sent anywhere.

How it counts

Days are calendar days, the way people ask “how many days until”: from Monday to the next Monday is 7, and the day you leave is day 0, “today”. Sleeps are the nights before it, the same number, which is how children count. Weekends to go are the Saturdays after today and before the day you leave. Months and days step through the calendar a month at a time; a month after January 31 is the last day of February. The live clock counts to the minute you leave, on your phone’s or computer’s own clock, so a flight at 7:30 counts to 7:30 where you are. The weather is the average for that month at the place, from NASA POWER’s daily values for 2006 to 2025 (the same data as When to Go): highs, lows and the days with at least 1 mm of rain. It is what the month is usually like, not a forecast.

Keep it: your phone, a wallpaper, a paper chain, your blog

  • On your phone. The link is the countdown: on an iPhone open it in Safari, tap Share and “Add to Home Screen”; on Android, Chrome’s ⋮ menu and “Add to Home screen”. It works like a countdown app with nothing to install.
  • A wallpaper. “Save a phone wallpaper” makes a picture with today’s number, sized for a phone screen. It shows the day you saved it: save a new one whenever you like.
  • A paper chain. “Print a paper chain” prints one strip a day for the last 60 days, ten to a page. Cut them out, loop them into a chain and tear one off each morning.
  • Your calendar. “Add to my calendar” saves the trip with a reminder the day before, for Apple, Google or Outlook calendars.
  • Your blog or family page. “Put it on my blog” gives the code for your own countdown, counting down live on your page.

Worked examples

A cruise on Saturday, June 12, 2027, counted on September 28, 2026. 257 days, 257 sleeps, 36 weekends to go, 8 months and 15 days. Nassau in June: highs about 83 °F, and rain on about 22 days of the month.

A flight to Orlando tomorrow at 7:30. The answer reads “Tomorrow: Disney World!”, and the clock counts the hours and minutes to 7:30 on your phone’s clock.

A paper chain for Christmas at Grandma’s, 90 days away. The chain is the last 60 days: the tool says the day to start it, and you print it then or now and keep it in a drawer.

Common mistakes

  • Counting today. “Days until” does not count the day you are in: tomorrow is 1 day away.
  • A time in another time zone. The clock counts on your own device. For a flight that leaves in another zone, type its time in yours.
  • Reading the weather as a forecast. It is the month’s average over 20 years. Check a forecast in the week before you go.
  • A wallpaper that stops counting. A picture cannot tick: the link on your home screen does.
