The longest non-stop flight in the world today is Singapore Airlines’ Singapore – New York (JFK): 9,532 miles (15,341 km), about 18 h 25 min to New York and 19 h 10 min back. Its Newark flight is a whisker shorter. Below are the 15 non-stop routes of 8,000 miles or more we could confirm on each airline’s own website, longest first — and the long routes that are not flying non-stop right now.
How to use it
The list is ready as soon as the page opens. To see where your own flight ranks, type the airport you leave from and the one you fly to — a city, an airport name or its three-letter code. You get the great-circle distance and your place on the list: if an airline flies your pair non-stop and it is long enough, its number; if not, where it would sit, or how it compares with the longest. Switch to “To or from the US” for the longest flights from the United States, and to km if you prefer. Two US airports are ranked among the longest flights inside the US instead, and two of the world’s shortest hops get their own answer.
The longest non-stop flights, ranked
Checked on 10 October 2026. Distance is the great circle between the two airports; the time is the one the airline prints on its own page (— where it prints none). Planes rarely fly the exact great circle, so the miles flown are a little more.

Two lines on the list are not quite what they seem. Perth – London is non-stop only from London today: Qantas sends the Perth to London flight through Singapore until 31 January 2027 and says it returns to non-stop from 1 February. Perth – Rome is seasonal, 3 May to 27 October 2026, and drops off the list after its last flight.
Long routes that are not non-stop today
Many lists still rank these. On the airlines’ own pages they stop: Qatar Airways’ Doha – Auckland (9,031 miles) runs through Adelaide until 9 December 2026, then Melbourne and Brisbane; Air India’s schedule for this week shows its San Francisco flights to Bengaluru and Mumbai with a stop in Delhi. Qantas has announced Sydney – London non-stop from October 2027 (10,576 miles, which would be the new longest) and Sydney – New York from mid-2028.
The longest flights from the US
From the United States the longest is the same Singapore – New York (JFK) flight, then Newark – Singapore, then Qantas’ Melbourne – Dallas-Fort Worth and Auckland – New York with Air New Zealand and Qantas. Of the 11 US routes on the list, Singapore Airlines’ West Coast flights, Qantas’ Sydney – Dallas and Emirates’ Los Angeles, Houston and San Francisco flights are all over 8,000 miles too.
The longest flights inside the US
The longest non-stop flight inside the United States today is New York (JFK) – Honolulu: 4,975 miles, flown by Hawaiian Airlines and Delta in about 10 h 51 min to Honolulu and 9 h 43 min back. Every one of the ten longest flies to Hawaii or Alaska. They come from the US Department of Transportation’s own record of every flight the large US airlines flew in July 2026: a route counts when it flew non-stop at least 8 times each way that month, and the times are the airlines’ own schedules as filed with the DOT. Type two US airports above and your flight is ranked among these.
| # | Route | Airline | Miles | Km | Scheduled time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | New York (JFK) – Honolulu (HNL) | Hawaiian Airlines and Delta | 4,975 | 8,007 | 10 h 51 min from New York, 9 h 43 min back |
| 2 | Washington Dulles (IAD) – Honolulu (HNL) | United | 4,809 | 7,740 | 9 h 50 min from Washington Dulles, 8 h 55 min back |
| 3 | Atlanta (ATL) – Honolulu (HNL) | Delta | 4,495 | 7,234 | 9 h 30 min from Atlanta, 8 h 45 min back |
| 4 | Detroit (DTW) – Honolulu (HNL) | Delta | 4,468 | 7,191 | 9 h 37 min from Detroit, 8 h 40 min back |
| 5 | Chicago (ORD) – Honolulu (HNL) | United | 4,237 | 6,820 | 9 h 2 min from Chicago, 8 h 5 min back |
| 6 | Minneapolis (MSP) – Honolulu (HNL) | Delta | 3,967 | 6,384 | 8 h 33 min from Minneapolis, 7 h 42 min back |
| 7 | Houston (IAH) – Honolulu (HNL) | United | 3,898 | 6,273 | 8 h 16 min from Houston, 7 h 42 min back |
| 8 | Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) – Honolulu (HNL) | American | 3,779 | 6,081 | 7 h 56 min from Dallas-Fort Worth, 7 h 24 min back |
| 9 | Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) – Kahului (OGG) | American | 3,705 | 5,963 | 7 h 50 min from Dallas-Fort Worth, 7 h 14 min back |
| 10 | Atlanta (ATL) – Anchorage (ANC) | Delta | 3,410 | 5,488 | 7 h 33 min from Atlanta, 6 h 52 min back |
Boston – Honolulu (5,087 miles) is longer than all of them, but nobody flies it today: Hawaiian Airlines flew its last one on 19 November 2025, and Delta says on its own news page that it brings the route back from 19 December 2026, daily over the holidays and four times a week through the winter. Newark – Honolulu is not on the list either: no major US airline flew it non-stop in July 2026.
The shortest flights in the world
The shortest scheduled flight in the world is Westray – Papa Westray in Orkney, Scotland: 1.8 miles (2.8 km). Loganair, which flies it in an eight-seat Britten-Norman Islander, calls it “the world’s shortest scheduled flight” and says it “usually takes around 90 seconds”; its timetable allows 2 minutes. It flies only when bookings need the plane to call at both islands, as part of Loganair’s Orkney Inter-Isles service from Kirkwall. The table has every hop in Loganair’s summer 2026 timetable, with its shortest scheduled time, and the two shortest flights on a major US airline, both in Alaska.
| Flight | Airline | Miles | Km | Scheduled time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Westray – Papa Westray | Loganair (Orkney) | 1.8 | 2.8 | 2 min |
| Stronsay – Sanday | Loganair (Orkney) | 6.9 | 11 | 5 min |
| North Ronaldsay – Papa Westray | Loganair (Orkney) | 16 | 26 | 10 min |

| North Ronaldsay – Eday | Loganair (Orkney) | 17 | 27 | 10 min |
| Kirkwall – Sanday | Loganair (Orkney) | 23 | 37 | 13 min |
| Kirkwall – Westray | Loganair (Orkney) | 27 | 44 | 15 min |
| Kirkwall – Papa Westray | Loganair (Orkney) | 27 | 44 | 15 min |
| Kirkwall – North Ronaldsay | Loganair (Orkney) | 33 | 53 | 17 min |
| Wrangell – Petersburg | Alaska Airlines (Alaska) | 31 | 50 | 22 min from Wrangell, 25 min back |
| Juneau – Gustavus | Alaska Airlines (Alaska) | 41 | 66 | 38 min from Juneau, 36 min back |
Smaller commuter airlines in Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean fly some short hops too; the US numbers here cover the large airlines that report every flight to the DOT.
Where the routes come from
Every route is read on the airline’s own website: Emirates’ weekly schedule pages (flight number, aircraft and duration), Singapore Airlines’ route pages, Qantas’ international network page and its travel-agent notices, Air New Zealand’s New York page, Qatar Airways’ New Zealand page, Air India’s schedule and United’s newsroom. The flights inside the US come from the US Department of Transportation’s monthly record of every flight (public domain), and Orkney’s from Loganair’s own page and timetable. Lists on travel blogs disagree with each other and many still show flights that now stop on the way, so none is used. A few long routes are left off until their airline’s own page says they fly non-stop: United’s Houston – Sydney, Delta’s Atlanta – Johannesburg, American’s Dallas – Brisbane, Philippine Airlines’ Manila – New York, Saudia’s Jeddah – Los Angeles, China Southern’s Shenzhen – Mexico City, Qatar’s Doha – Los Angeles and Cathay Pacific’s Hong Kong – Dallas. The list is re-checked every three months.
Worked examples
New York to Singapore. This is #1: 9,532 miles, and Singapore Airlines gives about 19 h 10 min for the flight from New York.
Los Angeles to Singapore. #8 on the list at 8,762 miles; Singapore Airlines prints 15 h 30 min to 15 h 35 min from Singapore.
New York to London. 3,442 miles: the longest flight is 2.8 times as far, and your flight is 36% of it.
Common mistakes
- Trusting an old list. Routes stop and start. Doha – Auckland and Perth – London both stop on the way today in at least one direction.
- Counting a “direct” flight as non-stop. A direct flight keeps its flight number but can land on the way; only a non-stop flies the whole way.
- Ranking by hours. Winds make the same route an hour longer one way than the other, so the list ranks by distance and shows the airline’s time beside it.
