In the United States of America, toll roads are commonplace.
As a rule, in the States, at the entrance to any payment point, millions of signs are presented.
For example, one mile before any payment point, the set speed mode drops sharply, the signs show the lane you need to turn into and take, and all this is done depending on a certain type of transport.
For example, trucks occupy the right lane, cars with cash pay in the center, and cars with transponders are on the left.
There are also two types of routes.
From my experience, toll roads are organized in such a way that it is more profitable for the driver to turn onto the toll road and not waste more fuel and time driving around it.
What is The Difference Between SunPass Pro and E-ZPass?
Both of them are portable transponders that facilitate faster and more convenient transit through participating toll facilities while also assisting in the overall reduction of traffic congestion.
If you have SunPass PRO, there is no need to purchase an E-ZPass.
You can use any of them to travel on toll roads in Florida.
Look below at the table, and you won’t see any differences.
SunPass Pro | E-ZPass |
SunPass PRO is a product of SunPass, Florida’s Prepaid Toll Program. SunPass PRO is compatible with Florida as well as 21 additional states, including all E-ZPass locations. Drivers can enjoy the ease of automatic toll payment with SunPass PRO, enabling nonstop travel with just one toll account. | E-ZPass is accepted in 18 states. E-ZPass is not just for paying for tolls on roads.
When you visit parking lots with E-ZPass technology installed, you can pay for parking automatically. |
It works in Florida plus Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, parts of Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. | It works in 18 states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, and Florida. |
SunPass Pro does not charge you annually. If you have a SunPass, it is scanned by an electronic reader, and the fare is debited from your prepaid account. This reduces fares by about 25 percent and saves significant time at the toll booths. The SunPass Pro costs $19.99 plus tax. | The E-ZPass network’s fees vary significantly from state to state.
Some states charge annually for the transponder, while others do not. For example, the Maryland Transportation Authority charges an annual fee of $18 and provides free transponders. And, for example, Virginia asks for a minimum account balance of $35 to start. |
Florida residents who make 35 or more toll transactions per month will automatically receive a 50% account credit under the scheme. | E-ZPass makes you automatically eligible for volume savings of 20% to 40% for frequent travel each month (30 or more journeys), as well as reductions off the cash price at several toll roads… |
Both of them have electronic sensors that you can connect to your car’s license plate, roof, or windshield.
The sensor transmits a signal to the toll collection company in charge of the throughway you are now using.
It keeps a record of when your car enters and leaves the toll area.
Is SunPass Pro The Same as E-ZPass?
Yes.
SunPass Pro works everywhere.
E-ZPass is accepted in more states.
Can I Use my SunPass Pro With E-ZPass?
They say if you have both an E-ZPass and a SunPass Pro in your car while driving, the SunPass will be the one that gets charged.
But I recommend you use only one of the transporters.
The system can charge you twice.

What Happens If you Miss a Toll in Florida in a Rental Car?
Nothing bad will happen because if you use a rented car for travel, then the payment method will be tied to the company providing the service.
Often, the same E-ZPass or similar electronic sensor is already installed in the car, and the payment for all the passes will be charged to you in addition to the cost of the main service.
If a rented car does not have toll road transportation for some reason, which is very weird, then you have to buy it yourself.
For a passenger car, you can purchase an EZ Pass at major stores and gas stations.
It will cost a little more than $40, of which $35 will be available for travel.
Then the device must be registered in your name, indicate the type of car where it will be used, and be tied to two sources of money.
I attached two credit cards from which money is withdrawn as soon as the account balance drops below $10.
Replenishment occurs at $35.
On the EZ Pass website, you can view all toll roads and print an “invoice”.
Ah forgot to mention… sometimes there are construction work is underway on the road to expand the lines.
I think , on the rises, this is certainly necessary, on the flat stretches – a waste of money.
If you travel only in California, the main payment collection service used is the FasTrak application; you just need to create an account and temporarily link the rental car number and payment card.
In San Francisco, cash payments are more common, while in Orange County, there is often no cash option, in which case payment will need to be made online.

By the way, think twice before you rent a car.
Moreover, say, in New York or Chicago, it is even more convenient to use public transport than to spend time in long traffic jams and look for a place to park.
BUT!
The many beauties of the United States—parks, mountains, beaches, and waterfalls—most often lie outside the boundaries of large cities, and to get there, a car is simply necessary.
So, if you are going on vacation and you need a car, car rental services, which are very popular and widespread in the States, will help you out.
