There is something different about Florida.

I know lot of people believe it is sandy, but it is not true.

The distance between Pensacola and

Key West

is 832 miles and there are differences in the soil at various points.

About 300 agriculture products, with a market value of more than  $148 billion are produced from about 47,600 farms in Florida.

Firstly, what lives in the

sand in Florida

?

Some of the things that live in Florida’s sand are roly polies, sand crabs, and beach hoppers

Secondly, the fact that most of Florida are covered by a sand cap which in some places can be as deep as 100 feet or more makes this interesting.

There are places in Florida with high water tables, and there are other places where the soil is made of organic matter, not sand, silt, or clay.

You will see this kind of soil in some areas of the Everglades.

The sand cap in Southeast Florida, south of Palm Beach County is shallow, where it is even present.

What lives in the sand in Florida?

There are lots of crustaceans such as sand crabs, roly polies, and

beach hoppers living on Florida

beaches.

The beaches are also home to beetles, blood worms, and clams.

What Lives in the <a href=

There are always rapid changes in sea tide and this affects places these isopods and amphipods can be found on the beach.

For instance, you may dig up a sand crab at a particular spot now, but don’t expect to see it at the same location in the next few hours.

In every intertidal zone, a place is submerged during high tide, and as the tide recedes the place goes back to dry condition.

Within this short time, a quick change in the habitat of the isopods and amphipods takes place.

The peculiar feature of the beach is that the animals living on it change their locations as the tide rise and falls.

All the crustaceans, both isopods, and amphipods as well as other creatures like beetles, blood worms, and clams, change their habitation as the water level changes.

This ecosystem is unique, and managing it is difficult because of the on-the-go lifestyle of the creatures.
