Let me tell you about one of my favorite places to visit on the Asturian coast – Llanes! This city is a hidden gem that’s just begging to be explored.<\/p>\n

Now, let me tell you about the beaches. Oh boy, the beaches! Llanes is the perfect starting point for exploring the beautiful “Costa Verde” region of Asturias.<\/p>\n

And even during peak season, the roads are relatively quiet – which means you can take your time and enjoy the views without worrying about pesky traffic.<\/p>\n

And the beaches themselves? Well, let me just say that you won’t be disappointed. From secluded coves to towering mountains to exquisite playas (that’s Spanish for “beaches”), there’s something for everyone. But my personal favorite? That would have to be Playa de Torimbia.<\/p>\n

This place is a natural wonder that’s easily accessible on foot. And the view? Oh my goodness, it’s like something out of a postcard.<\/p>\n

Now, let me tell you a personal story. One time, I was walking along the shore of Playa de Torimbia and I stumbled upon a group of locals playing music and singing together. They welcomed me with open arms and invited me to join in on the fun.<\/p>\n

Best time to Visit Llanes<\/h2>\n

You can go to Llanes or along the Asturian coast any time of the year.<\/p>\n

In winter season, the first snows ordinarily fall in October and can proceed until April, making the higher mountains unsafe and closed for any hiking adventures or rendering the ski station off limits to any winter sports activities.<\/p>\n

The peak season for tourism is during the summer season (June \u2013 August). Around this time the beaches are filled with mostly foreign travelers from Europe who want to escape the cold winter season and prefer to go sunbathing and swimming in the Asturian waters.<\/p>\n

If you have any plans of solo hike even during the winter season, check climate advisories, seek permission for environmental ministry authorities, wear appropriate thick clothing, and make sure you come fully equipped with hiking equipments, GPS, or navigational skills.<\/p>\n

These are the my favorite places to see and things to do in the city of Llanes\u2026<\/p>\n

Iglesia de Niembro<\/h2>\n

When the sun goes down, the Iglesia de Niembro and its bell tower are reflected in the water and the pictures look straight out of a postcard.<\/p>\n

It also has a cemetery; if you are lucky and the tide is high, it is even more beautiful to see. The church is a good place to have some nice photos and a good memory of a visit to Llanes.<\/p>\n

At low tide, it gives a very gloomy aspect of the marshy area and when it rises, it looks unique with the water reaching the wall enclosing the tombs.<\/p>\n

The setting is unbeatable; you can enjoy a swim, especially during high tide and see the church and the cemetery surrounding this lagoon, apart from enjoying activities like paddle surf.<\/p>\n

The Church is surrounded by nature, sea, mountain, etc. and it is worth a visit when in Llanes.<\/p>\n

My favorite things to do in Asturias coast<\/h2>\n

Playa de Torimbia<\/h2>\n

is a small cove with white fine sand. It is one of the beaches of Asturias with unparalleled beauty. It is a very nice beach that is frequented by nudists (there is a private area), and families with children.<\/p>\n

The only problem may be the parking, which is a little difficult in summer (peak season). To get there you need to walk a good 10-15 minutes from the parking lot.<\/p>\n

There is also a great kiosk where you can eat something and enjoy a great cider.<\/p>\n

To get there you have to reach Niembro, turn towards the village of Barru and soon you will see signs for Torranda and continuing up to Torimbia that takes about ten minutes walk from the car park up the hill or just a little further from the parking area of the beach before going to the coast.<\/p>\n

There is a good presence of naturists, but the beach is free to all.<\/p>\n

Llanes best beaches you should visit<\/h2>\n

Bufones de Pria<\/h2>\n

Itis a unique natural phenomenon and natural attraction in LLanes. Under pressure from the high tide water flows through its narrow passages, up to the carved water under the rocky shores, and finishes up with a pressure pouring out of several holes.<\/p>\n

It is a hole in a coastal rock that is dozens of meters away from the steep cliffs. These holes are located twenty meters from the steep bank.<\/p>\n

They are called \u201cBuffon\u201d because when the water outlet is flowing, the water creates a buffing sound.<\/p>\n

The sounds in the depth of these holes are vividly heard throughout the beach area. Indeed, \u201cthe buff\u201d is well worth the visit despite being used as a nudist beach colony.<\/p>\n

You can drive up and get closer. Around the Buffon there is very prickly vegetation.<\/p>\n

You must walk to the sea on the rocks, in order for you to see and hear the sound through the caves and underground caves.<\/p>\n

The noise makes a hollow sound and sometimes you can see the water splashing upwards. It is highly recommended to wear jeans and closed shoes.<\/p>\n

When the ocean gets rough enough to beat the fountains from the rocks, it looks awesome! The higher the waves, the more it looks spectacular.<\/p>\n

Playa de Poo<\/h2>\n

is located in the bay where the river flows. During low tide, it is shallow and there is no ocean view. The beach is ideal for families with children.<\/p>\n

It is nice to walk on the sand and breathe the ocean air. If the wind and water current is strong, the red flags are hoisted. The Playa de Poo is a super clean beach, which is cleaned every morning by a tractor with an attached rake.<\/p>\n

At low tide you can go from one bay to the next (be careful with the onset of high tide!). You can spend a day on a beach where you will experience a mix of different scenes like; the sea, beach, lagoon, springs, caves, and coves.<\/p>\n

In the heart of the city, it is picturesque and scenic. At high tide, it tends to become a bit crowded.<\/p>\n

It is the safest beach of Asturias and one of the nicest, where the natural beauty is unparalleled. Playa de Poo is a beautiful beach at the mouth of a stream.<\/p>\n

At high tide, the beach almost disappears, but it forms a magnificent and quiet shallow cove for swimming. At low tide, the sea is removed, leaving a large enough mass of sand between the mountains and water.<\/p>\n

The views from the high places that encircle it are beautiful. It is surrounded by a hotel, two restaurants, and a snack bar.<\/p>\n

You cannot imagine that there can be such a beautiful and pristine beach, because it is converted into an estuary beach.<\/p>\n

It is a huge beach that is like a rising tide lagoon without waves and current, making it ideal for small children or the disabled.<\/p>\n

What to do in Llanes?<\/h2>\n

Playa de Gulpiyuri<\/h2>\n

is a mini beach with its own certain charm and surrounded by greenery.<\/p>\n

It is not a beach resort and not too busy maybe because of its small size, but do not hesitate to visit, it will surprise you. The beach is small and the road until you reach it is rough.<\/p>\n

You have to leave your car in a parking lot of sand, and then walk 10 minutes. The environment is quite run down and not well maintained.<\/p>\n

In summer you can swim, but there are restricted parts where one cannot enter unless a member; it is a nudist beach. It is not recommended for families with children.<\/p>\n

This playa is a bit difficult to locate, but worth going to see an inland beach visit with sea water that is more ideal on high tide, otherwise you will not see anything, but plain sand and rock.<\/p>\n

It is salt water since it is the sea that filters through the cliff which supplies its water. It is spectacular to see how it influences the movement of the waves.<\/p>\n

The amazing thing is its natural qualities. It is surrounded by greenery, which creates an amazing framework. You can stroll from the vicinity to the cliffs nearby.<\/p>\n

The water and the breeze from the ocean side are cold and if you prefer to walk all the way, the view from the cliff is nice. Expect a huge crowd in September; it is widely patronized during summer.<\/p>\n

Playa de San Martin<\/h2>\n

is simply spectacular and it can be accessed by the cyclist trail between Celerio and Poo (about 10-15 minutes walking from Celorio).<\/p>\n

The top view (on one side \u2013 the sea, and the other- the mountains of leather) is wonderful. Along the way there are more beaches where you can go down.<\/p>\n

There are many surfers, but do not bother much. It is a beautiful beach cove type, and depending on the tide, big or small, you can get there by following a route from the beaches of Celorio to Poo.<\/p>\n

The surrounding cliffs, has crystal clear water and big waves to have fun with the whole summer afternoon.<\/p>\n

It is not a good choice for children and the elderly, because of the big waves and the difficult access to the beach. The paths to reach are part of signposted trails, bike routes, and north road of Santiago<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are several beaches in Llanes that are joined at low tide and in any case, the entire set of beaches (Celorio, Poo, Gulpiyuri, and San Martin) that unites at low tide is wonderful and worthy to enjoy.<\/p>\n

This beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of Asturias. The beach is located near the city, but you can get there only by car.<\/p>\n

Because of the remoteness it is quite deserted, but it has almost everything and the crystal clear water looks brilliant under the sun. There is not much waves, and in good weather the ocean is calm and flat as the palm of the hand.<\/p>\n

The sand is so fine caressing as velvet. Being bathed daily by sea water, it is clean and ideal for walking. To enjoy it fully with your family or with the kids, you need to go at low tide. The only negative thing about the beach is it does not have a single lifeguard around.<\/p>\n

The crystal clear water and fine sand, the great landscape, and the fact that it is not always overcrowded make this beach and LLanes City a good choice for people who prefer a quiet summer holiday experience.<\/p>\n

The white sand, wind, and the rugged ocean cliffs, and to complete the overall picture \u2013 the ruins of a temple at the top of the beach makes it a favorite site in Llanes by beach enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

Fun things to do in Llanes beaches<\/h2>\n

Playa de Toro<\/h2>\n

is a pristine beach with eroded rocks as if they were statues.<\/p>\n

It is worth a visit on foot to go up to see the cliffs. This playa in Llanes City is a prominent beach with sand and rocks of a particular charm. It is highly recommended that you continue the path leading to the lookout. You can see the beach from other viewpoints.<\/p>\n

It is a panorama of dream in the Picos de Europa Fund that is blessed with beautiful cliffs, unique stones, clean sand, and a busy beachfront.<\/p>\n

Playa de Toro has a wonderful landscape with the peaks in the background, the strange shaped rocks and cliffs, and a nice bar to dine with while watching the idyllic views.<\/p>\n

It is a very nice beach in the line of many others, dotted with jagged rocks that give it a lunar appearance.<\/p>\n

It is not very big and it is coming out of Llanes, towards La Portilla. Free parking is available nearby as well as easy access to bars and restaurants. Spacious and clean, the beach is ideal to go with children, in groups or in pairs.<\/p>\n

The playa has showers and a small picnic area. The rock formations on the beach give a different look. It has neither sunbeds nor umbrellas for rent, but instead there is a strip of shade near a low wall that is very functional in the peak of summer.<\/p>\n

It is a somewhat spacious beach and there are always crowds of tourists; mostly families with kids and senior citizens. There are shower rooms and places to wash your feet if you do not want to go home full of sand.<\/p>\n

There are picnic tables attached to the beach and you can have weekend picnic or gathering with friends and family.<\/p>\n

Top Llanes tourist attractions<\/h2>\n

Playa de la Ballota<\/h2>\n

is an easily accessible beach in Llanes City by car for the whole family. It is best to visit this beach at low tide.<\/p>\n

In good weather and when the sea is calm, it is the closest thing to paradise. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Asturias because of its water quality and beautiful surroundings. The snack bar is friendly and gives good service.<\/p>\n

The beach is gorgeous, has clear water and fine sand. It has a nudist part separated by rocks in the background.<\/p>\n

Like most beaches in the area of Llanes, it virtually disappears at high tide. The beach is located on the Asturian eastern coast (about 5 km from Llanes and just 3 km from the tourist village of Andrin).<\/p>\n

Access is best explored on foot since it has a major drive to lower altitude, it is a very quiet place and the beach is surrounded by a natural environment, highly recommended just like any beach in this area.<\/p>\n

The track is a long slope. At the end of the track there is a small parking lot (ground), which on sunny days is saturated.<\/p>\n

It offers rescue service, but nothing more. Given its natural character (wild beach), it has no showers, and areas for recreation.<\/p>\n

The access road to the beach is very narrow and should make the journey from the main road to the beach with the utmost caution.<\/p>\n

It is a rustic beach that is surrounded by green meadows and wherein when high tide, the water reaches the edge or screed, disappearing all the sand, but when it coincides with the low tide, there may be 50 or 70 meters of beautiful sand available for sunbathers.<\/p>\n

It has a small bar at the side with good views, a modest place that even offers a daily menu, unpretentious and where you can order a complete meal at a moderate price of around 10 Euros.<\/p>\n

What else to see in Llanes?<\/h2>\n

Playa de Cobijeru<\/h2>\n

is an inner beach that is best seen during high tide.<\/p>\n

If you come at low tide, it is a puddle. What\u2019s impressive are the cliffs and rock formations between the beach and the sea. You should wear a good pair of sports shoes because you need to walk between rocks and it is oftentimes slippery.<\/p>\n

The coastal area around this playa is where you can get some good pictures, especially the cave that has its entrance to the beach.<\/p>\n

This cave deserves special comment. If visiting with calm seas and low tide you can walk to the outside part of the cliff. But if you like a worthwhile journey, you must visit at night or at high tide and get to the limit where you can bring off the flashlight.<\/p>\n

You enter through a gap in the mountains, you think it\u2019s going to be a tiny cave, but you will be surprised when you keep walking and walking, crouching, sliding, until the end of it, where the waves break.<\/p>\n

Llanes City and its wide selection of beaches is all worth a visit, but it is important to be aware of the high and low tide times in order to appreciate all its beauty and features.<\/p>\n

It is advisable to consult the tides of the day from the weather forecast and the news before any visit. The beach, the caves, and the limestone cliffs are a perfect outing for the whole family; kids will enjoy much in such a beautiful and wild atmosphere.<\/p>\n
