You just have to take a deep breath and walk into some of these great destinations, you can spend your weekend in the company of Brahminy ducks, owlets, leopards and hog deer in some of pristine environments around the world. Hastinapur Bird Sanctuary
You may associate Hastinapur with the Mahabharata and not the pristine wooden destinations. This place is barely hundred kilometers from Delhi, on the periphery of a place called Meeret. This is where you find more than 350 species of birds. It was founded in 1986 and has become one great destination to be with the Ganges that is flowing through it. This is where you can find the painted stork, kingfisher, jungle owlet and barbet. It about 100 gharials in it which is the reason why this place is a must visit during the weekends. Do you know that you would even find the elusive crocodilian species., spy a jackal, pythons and a civet here? The best time you can visit here is between November and April.
This has become one of the largest freshwater wetlands in north India. It is located about sixty kilometers from Amritsar which is in the Tarn Tarn district. This is at the confluence of the Beas and Sutlej Rivers . You would find a lot of migratory birds especially when you come during the winter. Apart from the avian wonders, there are hog deer, jungle cat and jackal for you to see. This is one great spot to watch birds and it can be visited around January to March.
Rajaji National Park
It is known that the most popular national park in this region is Corbett Tiger Reserve. One great weekend getaway that you may want to visit is the Rajaji National Park. It is situated in Chilla which is a village that has become a home to elephants, leopards, tigers and more than 400 species of birds. This park is divided by the Ganges which has made so may beautiful landscapes in this region. There are loads of activities for your getaways. The perfect time to be here is during November to June.
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
The Keoladeo Ghana National Park is situated in Bharatpur. This is India’s most visited sanctuary and it is very close to Bharatpur. It has over 100 species of birds and you can walk with ease here. There are cycling tracks ,paved walkways, and trained rickshaw-pulling guides . This is what you need to move around this place, you can find a lot of owls of various species, warblers, darters, sarus cranes and the lapwing.
