This is freaking scary.  As you know I was alone when I downed this elk in North Dakota.  I was using my camera’s timer attached to my shooting stick to give me enough time to get into the picture.  I knew there were a lot of cats in the area but had no idea they would come in this close to people.  He had to be within 10 feet of me and I didn’t even know it.  I about crapped my pants when I looked at the pictures the next morning and saw he was there.

  1. What an incredible picture! I think I would have crapped my pants as well if I’d looked back at the picture the next day!
Did the lion not approach you at all? What did you do after you took this picture?!

  2. Hi Hippy,
As I mentioned above I found out about the lion being in my picture the day after.
Luckily the lion didn’t approach me at all, maybe if he had, I wouldn’t be able to tell this story.
If I had seen the lion there the moment I took the picture, I would probably have fainted right away, and the bastard would have got my elk.

I think this lion was too scared of my camera flash, which could have saved my life.

  3. I think you could be right there!

Well I’m glad you are okay and you lived to tell the tale! Definitely an amazing story to tell for years to come!

Be more careful next time!  😉

  4. The pictures you have provided is one of the best shots I have ever seen. You are a lucky person who has survived to tell your tale. Can you tell me, what was the next thing that you did after clicking the picture?

  5. Holy. Crap.  Have you submitted this to the camera company?! Maybe they’d hook you up with a free upgrade? Good Advertising i’d say

  6. Wow, that’s incredible. Makes me wonder about what else is lurking that we can’t see. Well, glad you weren’t attacked!!!!!

  7. You definitely get lucky smiley3 as such a cat and so close you should say big thanks to your camera. Aside from this the picture is great.

  8. Hello Nick,

I just thrilled to think that if you had seen the big cat at that time then what your reactions would be? Anyways, bravo. Nic elk with big cat. Awesome.

  9. I anticipate I would accept crapped my pants as able-bodied if I’d looked aback at the account the next day!

Did the bobcat not access you at all
